I have an arc welder, with which I can make brutally ugly welds that require a huge amount of cleanup. I could probably get some time on my uncles mig down the road if you want to tack the hinge plate to the grill the way I did mine. If you wait until summer I hope to get on of these rigs and the ta...

Welder recomendations?
A while back there was a discussion about gas welders, someone mentioned a particluar gas welder whose tip/mixer looked like a pistol. The company advertised that one could weld from ridiculously thing up to pretty thick with this one particular unit. I seem to recall the guy who mentioned the tool ...

Thanks James. I was just trying some of the elements out yesterday. I have a new cote from Marla that fits much better under the hauberk than the arming coat I am wearing there. She was putting the finishing touches on it so I wore the 14th century cote. The belt is my old squires belt and is really...

Painted Kettle Hat.
Thought I'd post here, one of Adams creations in action, a painted kettle hat. Adam loaned me this to try with my evolving harness. It is simply put Da Bomb. I have a pot helm currently on the rails, but after fighting in the kettle I am not sure I am going to like it.

I think that is pretty close. Although I believe the short sleeved super tunic is a bit more of an early 12th century fashion, 1140 is a date that jumps into my head. I think by the third crusade the fashion was for a long relatively fitted sleeve on the tunic. It is a very simple look. I dont have ...

I do this.
http://www.ayri.org/index.html
At this point the primary series pretty much kicks my butt. I can get through sun salute A. and B. a couple of standing postures in about 45 minutes.
Look for a school or instructer in your area.

Does anything withstand His Grace? I think not. The ti would hold up admirably however. Spring right back into shape it would. Without decent padding a lot of force is still going to transmit however. Markus recommended some pretty thick padding as I recall. Also since as I envision it these would b...

D. Pteruges can work, if thick enough - averrils are in the neighborhood of 11 oz leather and Damons are similar I believe. The pine cone effect can be reduce by weighting the ends down with something. You are really good at putting decorative geegaws on your harness - just think of it as enlarging ...

Would a Crusader of the 3rd Crusades have worn polyns....or soupcan knees/elbows? In reality neither. A well armed man would have a mail hauberk with integral coif and mufflers, chausses and a helmet or possibly an early helm. The pot helm appears frequently in german art of the period (What we ten...

Dieter - after the holiday I can help you do some set up and trouble shooting on a vacumn forming table. A friend of mine did a whole bunch of plastic bits for the montshire museum, I helped with a fair bit of it. Not sure about the properties of hdpe but a little research should fill in the gaps. I...

Stephen of Silverforge fights with one, when he isn't channeling a sword and buckler gawd. His is mounted such that he is punching out with the broadest part of the arc. So it fights a lot like a strapped round shield. I dont think his is mush more than 22" from point to point. You would have to ask...

I think the main issue is that the dust does not degrade, so its a recipe for sylicosis, it gets in your lungs and stays doing abrasive damage. There may also be issues of fumes at very high temperatures such as in grinding, but I really don't know for sure on that. I hand file mine and just try to ...

Damon do a search for mrks or titanium here on the archive. If I recall he made a scale vest for Aveloc out of .025, and said that in several years of use (enough time that the backing was replaced at least once) and one plate had a bit of a bend from getting smacked by a great sword. I have some .0...

Knuut rocks! I have had two shirts from him. Three actually if you count the one I bought from Russ that was way too big. Adam put it on and looked like Gimli. My current shirt is a longsleeved hauberk with a coif and that ran me 900 or there abouts as I recall. If you can afford 800 wait a little a...
