Turn shoes or latchet closed shoes. Buckled shoes or boots might be appropriate although probably pretty upscale for a militia man. Toggle boots are probably evident somewhere in the archeological record, I just dont know of any evidence. I am really only ribbing Adam. Until my kit looks better than...

I use 1" electrical conduit that I hammer half round on a padded anvil, flatten the ends and drill. Comfortable and gives good rotational control on my shield.

Thanks Bob, I have a pretty much complete soft kit in the italian style coming shortly, might be here today. Once I get done with the house project - at least through the construction phase I'll have some time to explore a little more with the higgins and what not.

I have been fighting in one from Master Cad for about three years now. The leather I used is too thin for hte fauld and has worn through in several places, but the plastic is in fine shape.

Sir Gaston also makes a fine kit available here.

Eck is a Goth. He wears a roman helmet with what looks like a sports face on it. It is all done in the vein of someone who is aping the romans - so it looks like a cavalry legionaires gear but not quite as refined.

No Master Eck's lames do not contact the rattan. They are padded by felt, he said that he has taken direct shots from Master Tierlach and suffered no ill effects , Master Tierlach is one of our polearm gods here abouts for those listening in from abroad. I also have an order in with him, sent a couple of emails recently from two different addresses asking for an update with no answer as yet. Figure he must be busy, vacation or something similar. He has always been communicative and reliable in my past dealings with him.
