I bought mine from Scotland by the yard 8 years ago for my wedding, the kilt alone was in the area of 600 if I recall. Of course I chose Hunting Fraser which is not the most popular of plaids so materials cost a bit more. Try looking on ebay for used or in consignment stores, if you dont care what p...

I have been using egg gauntlets with my crosshilt. I have had good results. The eggs are stitched to the fingers of street hockey gloves, and the lames of the gauntlet kind of float. Not good for blocking with, but that is sort of the point isnt it? Course I did panic block last practice and the my o...

Ah I had wondered if you still had those pieces. Lamentably I think I am A. too large by a smidge and B. After my cotehardie went missing from the hotel at Birka my lady wife took the opportunity to kindly let me know that my legs really are too skinny to look good in fourteenth century kit. So thir...

I actually find my liner to be cooler than straight foam ever was. For cleaning I just periodically cut it out and wash it. Generally the stitching attaching it to the helmet edge wears through a couple of times a season depending on the amount of use it sees. So cleaning it becomes part of my maint...

Check out Mathew Amt's site, he did some experimentation with a linothorax and came up with some interesting information. I doubt that wax is going to have the results you are looking for, it is going to act as a lubricant and allow the threads to move impact resistance is going to approach nill. I ...

I agree on the previous comments about single handed swords. As it reads to my mind it limits the study to I.33 and the later rapier and backsword manuals. Ditch it. Likewise the limitations in regards to pole weapons. I would rather have the opportunity to study these under increased scrutiny than ...

Greetings Nails. The answer to your question is 'depends' It depends on what you want, maille can be had in a number of different grades and styles. Yah know it might just be that Adam is out in his shop... working. Give him a few hours to get back to you. Also I doubt $30 covers the materials in those, purple heart isn't cheap. These have been used gently for one weekend with Bob Charon. For reference I picked up an ash waster from Therion for ...

As far as I know crests in the manner of horns are only depicted in use during tournaments. From practical experience they tend to get in the way during a standard sca combat. I think that aside from the crest the model of the teutonic looks pretty sharp. Mathew of Paris draws poleyns and even schin...

I am patiently waiting for my new Knuut shirt. Really, honest. I sold my old one in order to fund a long sleeved hauberk. I fought in the haubergeon for about three years and prior to that had a welded round ring shirt I had purchased from a company in Germany. Now I feel naked fighting without a ma...

That style of helm (commonly reffered to as a Saltshaker here) is likely for a Ritter in the late 12th century and into the early 13th. See the silver shrine of Charlemagne in Achen for contemporary bas relief illustrations. Other options would be a round topped nasal helm, or possibly a kettle hat,...
