More than that ask yourself do I look like a medieval knight. Plastic is ok if you cover it. Don't wear Dark Victory Armour and expect people to be happy with your field presentation. At least cover it with someting. I would second justmagnus' suggestion. Ask locally if there is some loaner gear, wh...

Maybe. You need to look for examples of that type of helm from archeological finds. If you cant find evidence of the exact type from digs look for examples that are close to the location/culture and in the same time frame. The danger of using Byzantine art as a source is that it is Art. I think of i...

D. What you want is this:
http://history.westkingdom.org/Year38/Photos/JC49.htm
An artistic interpretation of an open faced helmet.
I bet Ugo would even make one that was a sculpture of your face.
If you asked reeeeeeeeally nice
and had Alaric put in a good word for you.

Owyn, Greetings, and welcome to the SCA, as Jehan has noted you have in one sitting been exposed to the two ends of our fighting. The imense joy of trying yourself against a worthy opponent and the tedium of waiting for someone to show up. The formula will remain largely the same for your entire car...

I had a P/P round pavilion (with side wall poles) It was at least a two person setup, faster with more. However, after I sold it and was muttering about the difficulty of setting it up someone said gee did you try wind ropes? Ah no of course I hadnt tried wind ropes. Take three or four guy ropes and...

Crack a book, get to reading. Charney and Ramon Lull will give you a good feel for the language of goodly men at arms. There may be translations that are preffered, but I do not know them. Personally I have the editions available via the chivalry bookshelf which I rather like, Particularly Dr. Mulbe...

It is just that I find it funny that some people take the requirement for plate and mail so seriously that they overlook the fact that the armor should also be "of period style and execution." Most of the folks who showed up for the historical series, at least the tournaments I made it to last summ...

Actually you have the option of the laminated cuisses we were talking about. See 'Late Roman Cavalryman 236-565" Plate G for Christa Hooks interpretation. The author uses an uncited passage to describe the Clibanarii. I know these are found in several archeological digs, but dont have the reference ...

White castle kind of lubricated things The ride was pretty hard on us who are relatively whole and hardy. Maybe next time we can get enough people together to really charter that tour bus we were talking about. Although we did find that having vehicles we could go out on the town in was a huge bonus...

Vitus, eat white castle - that'll take care of you right well. The ride from white castle on was... erm... well... odiferous. Several of us protested the choice of dining establishment, however we were outvoted by the white castle neophytes, who were desirous of the experience, having heard of the r...

It was fun - the silliness factor reduced my overall enjoyment of the fighting somewhat but on the whole it was fun. The feast was quite good, and our table became the entertainment - or the embarrassement I am not sure which is most appropriate. It was the kids table and we felt we had a certain um...

The weapon was using when I last saw him (fall crown) hardly deserved the appelation 'sword', it had more in common with a butter knife and so it was termed by Viscountess Gwenllion. Sir Stephen is very much alive and well. He caused more pain in my left leg with one shot than Karl von Sussen did wi...
