On civilian education vs Laurels and so forth. See here's the thing. In the civilian word, anybody with acedemic letters at the end of their name has usually aquired them at great expense of time, labor and yes, even money (education don't come cheap.) Most people don't go through all that effort j...

Re: Pas ideas
I am again the researcher at large for the baroney of WintersGate. We are very small but the baroness has requested that we get together some ideas for a good Pas de Arms. I have never personaly been to one nore has any other member of the barony so I was wondering what suggestions you might be abl...

Hi guys, Yes they are finger gauntlets. I'll put up some pic's for those who can't access photobucket. Sorry big photo's. Next is the coat of plates. And then finnish off the helms. Those are awesome! Any chance of some patterns on those? I wouldn't mind giving making them a shot. I know it might b...

OK I'll bite... Dear Master_Iron_Wolf: First off, welcome. Second, I suggest you you take the ribbing you're getting in good humour, but with a certain level of seriousness... in the end, you will benefit from it. The design of your helmet, despite your claims of historical roots, is pure fantasy. N...

We have an assassin helmet here I can’t find it, perhaps our ninja has it. sorry to offend you. i use it ca...

As for academic degrees and Laurels, I'm going to have to agree with the Laurel is fundamentally different then an academic degree. Frankly anyone in the SCA who doesn't look at ability over anything else is doing themselves a dis-service. And actually just cause someone has a PhD in history doesn'...

Arms are not and cannot be inherited. They can be. You just have to file the right paperwork. I was being short and brief.... but my point is that in the SCA, we do not treat arms as they were treated historically. It is possible to transfer arms, but marks of cadence are never used, and there isn'...

One thing that comes to mind is the absolute lack of acknowledgement of civilian education. For example Mistress Fugddaboutit has never graduated high school, works in 7-11, and lives in a grass hut. BUT because she has looked at a bunch of books and has been in the SCA a long time, and can talka g...

12th cent, as long as you cover the back. Face plates were added to many existing helms in this time as an inovation. George I believe early 13C was when face plates start appering...As audax said it resembles the St Justina helm except it is spangen in construction in stead of fluted...the St Just...

Is this the one in Westminster Abbey? If so, I think I have a pic around here somewhere.... at one point I was thinking of basing my kit off that effigy. I'd recommend Patrick thaden (he did my awesome bascinet), but he isn't actively in the armour biz any more. I'd also highly recommend Jiri Klepac of www.armour.cz Really awesome armourer. Excellent communication and first rate work. The only reason I hesitate at all is that atm the exchange rate is...

Uh, do you feel this way about heavily decorated swords from the period? m I can see why you would. I think the reason he says that is becuase we have come to associate heavily decorated swords with the cheap reproductions that are so very common. Most serious reproductions today represent simpler ...

Good point there, I know I sound like I'm arguing all the time but I'm just extremely picky and trying to come up with a kit that I like the looks of, then attach it to a time frame, some think that's ass backwards, but it's the look that appeals to me before anything, and I kind of cling to it. No...

Hmm and suprisingly Ive seen very few scale faulds being used today....even though they appear quite a bit...probably 1 out of 35 odd persons is shown with one in 14th and early 15th century illustrations...often German and Eastern European, Poland, Russian, Czech, etc. My fighting cuirass has what...
