For an interpretation a little lower on the food chain, try wood. Buy a 1x10 or 1x12 plank. I use Poplar from Home Depot, it works better than pine or oak, and is a common wood for the use in Europe. Saw into 10x10 or 12x12 squares. Get a half round gouge as wide as you can find (Sears has them). C...

I'd say avoid the whole far-fetched "orphan adopted by a noble thing." Just too fatastical I think. If you want to wear full armour of the Agincourt period, then go with a noble impression. Just keep in mind that supporting that kind impression is expensive. Otherwise, just be a generic man-at-arms ...

There's something I want to add about people getting knocked out by arrow strikes. An AK-47 round, imparting approxiately 1500 joules of energy (75% of its muzzle energy) to a polyaramid fiber helmet (the round did not bounce, it is trapped in the helmet between layers of kevlar weave), did not kno...

The last style.... the late 14th century one, where it appears that the scabbard is just stuck to the plaque belt.... there are at least a couple surviving fittings that seem to indicate that a hook or loop on the belt connects to a hook or loop on the scabbard. I think the idea is that the scabbard...

Muhlberger's Deeds of Arms

Anybody reading or has read this? I must say, I'm pretty impressed so far. I've just finished the chapter on the Combat of the Thirty Against Thirty. My only complaint so far is that the book itself could have used a better proof-reader. There is a significant typo or missing word every other page. ...

Once you get it polished, slap some renaissance wax on it to preserve the finish.

good quality baselard dagger

Please keep in mind that even at VERY short range, a low draw-weight bow cannot equal the energy delivered at 100 meters by a "war bow" of 150 lbs draw weight shooting a war arrow weighing 0.1 kg.

Experience with Renaissance Wax?

Now that I have some nice rustable spring-steel armour, I am looking to keep it purdy.

My main problem is that I sweat like a pig. :)

I have heard that Renaissance Wax does a good job protecting metals against corrosion, even under fairly heavy stresses. Anyone have any experience using it?
