Patrick, do you do the mail for aventail yourself or is it ordered from someone else? BTW, the helmet looks fantastic! I sent him the aventail. It's one of Von Sussen's 8mm flat-ring wedge rivetted aventails. I added the brass rings on the border myself. The brass rings came from Forth Armoury.

Well, can't attest to a "perfect" armourer, but I've worked with some that are damn close to perfect: 1) Patrick Thaden - making my custom bascinet now. Not "cheap" but excellent value for money. Just about the best quality you could ask for in terms of workmanship and historical accuracy. Fairly lo...

Any idea how the term "live steel" got started? I mean, steel isn't alive or dead is it?

yeah... an odd term. Is it an SCAism?

I hear Scadians using it all the time, but don't know if its use is limited to that.

Patrick Kelly For The Win! I own swords from Albion, A&A and a Christian Fletcher/Angus Trim collaboration. All excellent swords. I slightly prefer my Albion, but the A&A is magnificent. The Fletcher/Trim sword is a little less "spiff" than the other two, but it's a great cutter. I'd throw John Lund...

I am very interested in the flat, shovel looking visor that you've made for this bascinet. I've never seen anything like it before. Anyone care to fill me in? I based the design on these pic from the Flemish Alexander of about 1340, but modified to provide better facial coverage and to be more cons...

That center ridge on the visor is going to be very sweet. Is there going to be some kind of decoration on the ridge like brass or paint? Is there a surviving example to go from or only art work? I considered requesting brass for the reinforcer, but the art evidence indicates the huge majority were ...

Mail and a COP are pretty much your options. You MIGHT see a breast plate by 1350, but it would be state-of-the-art. Keep in mind that if you are a sherriff (knightly class), your still wearing a surcoat/jupon in this time frame over your body armour.

Looks like it will have more than one face thing... Hal Yup... I asked him to reproduce the actual visor (the pigface), and I asked for a flatter visor for a more mid0century look, as well as a bar grill for practicing and melee use. I'm going to have them held closed with a spring pin. I know it's...

The knuckle rider could be a tad wider, but I can't see any reason why you shouldn't be getting good felxibility out of that. That's nice work, btw! I think an earlier poster mentioned it, but it looks like maybe you sewed the finger leather onto the glove too far down. When choosing where to stitch...

My new Thaden bascinet underway!

Patrick has started work on my bascinet! He's been busy with his personal life between passes on my hat, so I'm gonna post some of thew progress picks. I've commissioned a bascinet inspired by the Churburg in the RA. The skull will be 14g Spring steel and the visor 14G mild. The main visor will be t...

How much movement do you get out of the knuckle-rider? It's really the key to flexibility in this design. I own the Klepac guants you have linked to, and I can tell you without a doubt that the knuckle-rider MAKES these gaunts.

ARGH!

That just ridiculous. $100 would be reasonable for a book like that (like the Wisby book), but THAT is out of my league.
