Well, I know if you place an approved helm on a post, table, etc and give it a whack, it will prob come out ok. put this travesty of an idea on a-non living thing. A normal blow will prob leave a sizeable dent.
Tell him to shop around for a real greek helm

Just got a GDFB Riveted/flattened coif to use as a aventail. It is nicely blackened from the factory, and has a nice coat of grease/oil. How do I remove the grease/oil without messing up the nice black finish ?
I searched but found nothing recent, your help is appreciated.

Well, I finally got to see this thing on a high -res screen. The surface rust showing in the pictures is gone now. I used some steel wool and oil to remove it. Still gotta get some more pics up, been busy.

Anyone here used a Get Dressed For Battle coif as an aventail on their SCA helms ?
I am concerned that it wont be large enough to go around an sca helm. Anyone have any experience doing this ?

For those of you that have added aventails to your kettles, nasals, bascinets, etc, how is the added weight ? Does it all get carried by the head or does it also get carried by the shoulders as well ?

Dark age starter kit here .Up for sale is a Shamrock Armory Spangen helm. This hem is solid. Helm is blued, while the spangens are polished steel. when i boxed, they taught to pivot on the ball of the rear foot for power in rear hand blows. Pretty common, I still do it somtimes in sca fighting, especially if Im facing the infamous creature, the rhino
