How are you guys measuring where to situate the boss top-to-bottom ? Dead center ? 1/3 way down ?
Any issues putting a boss on the curvature of the shield face ?

I am not up to speed on the intricacies of the heater shield, but I have noticed the trend of center-bossed heaters popping up lately in SCA combat. What was the historic use of the Center - Bossed heater ?
is it particular to a time / region, etc ?

Rise from the ashes !!! The bascinet was the common helm until the early 1500s .....later, burgonet, morion, and cabbaset. At least 1 tomb has what looks like to me a T - face barbute. A couple of other possibilities would be a simple " skull " ( mentioned by an English writer in the 1500s...

Just wanted to chime in here for MM. He doesn't post a ton, but the is a frequent lurker. He is in my local area, and we recently made a heater blank as well as the kite. A word about MM and his shield designs. He is the only person I know that came up with a math equation for a correctly proportion...
