For amusement, here's a picture of me sparring one of my cadets. I'm using a mortuary hilt from hanwei with a del-tin "double-wide" blade. Even with a dagger, the highland stuff still creeps in. It really is the quickest and safest way to put a nice cut on someone's head at close range......

I thought the SCA was 6th C to 16th C? in which case, although there's a small number of english and german basket-hilted single swords dating from 1540's and onwards, surely the weapon archetype I suspect you're thinking of is about 100 - 150 years out of the SCA's time frame? Scottish Highlander Broadsword fencing in SCA Fencing ?

I am not up to speed on the SCA Fencing movement, Is anyone using this as a vehicle for testing / using the Highland Broadsword ?
Any help is appreciated.

I should have asked " Is anyone using any of the approved cut n thrust type swords to do a Highland clansman interpretation. "
