So sorry if I got your red lace panties in a twist with my suggestion, but so far, I've not heard anything better come from you. Owynn, How did you know?...Have you been peeking in my window? It wasn't realy an insult, more of a gentle jibe. It just seems naive. Like Duke Edmund observed, the guy w...

Mercenaries can exist because Kings care who wins the war more than they care about anything else. (Except being Kings) This year I am not fighting for a King but rather for Gabriel, of Gabriel's landing. (A wonderful neighborhood pub) I am doing this to thank him for his service in Iraq and for com...

I know of one guy in the SCA who fights so much he uses solo flex becouse his sticks last 50% longer than regular rattan from the abuse he puts his weapons through. He has no problems I know of with people not taking shots from his weapons. But then he might be the exception to the rule. I am this ...

Over the years I have broken about a dozen other peoples fingers. [snip] If your hands aren't worth 75 bucks you need to re-examine your life choices. I'm thinkin' I'd be re-examining them 'long about the second time I broke someone else's hand. bad troll, no weevilly biscuit. Its OK, lets examine ...

My bowcase rides on my left hip and my quiver rides on my right. In our combat I fire my arrows, case my bow and if there's anything left alive I draw my saber, unsling my shield and go kill it. Pretty simple. SCA seems to make such an occurrance way hard for no reason I can comprehend though. Have...

Over the years I have broken about a dozen other peoples fingers. Every one of them in some form of hockey glove. I bought one of my men a set of Sir Brand's aluminum guantlets. Really decent hand protection. They cost all of 75 bucks. If your hands aren't worth 75 bucks you need to re-examine your ...

Re: Great Melee Units in your Kingdom
It is that time of the year again. Many of us are looking towards the great Pennsic War and are practicing our melee skills. What melee units are looking good in your kingdom this year? In the East, we have had a long history of great melee units but they are always evolving, or eroding. This year ...

Thanks for the compliment Nissan. Coming from the commander of another fine mellee unit I take that as a special honor. It is what it is. We (Clovenshield) do OK, but we are not big enough at 25 guys to dominate a big battle by ourselves. We can be a nifty force multiplier and make other units more...

One of the most effective weapons I've seen for a smaller/younger person is a crossbow. There was a lady at Gulf Wars this year who was less than five feet tall and very petite who was one of the most amazing combat archers I have ever seen. She would sneak around and inbetween the larger fighters ...

See the thread Master Magnus and the Challenge of the Couter And Challange of the couter update? For my part, I would be gratified if someone would publish an image of the Couter itself. Although perhaps ordinary folk like myself aren't supposed to see it . . . Another thing I should like to see is...

The Clovenshield National Anthem Howled offkey by drunks to the tune of Scotland the brave. (preferably played very badly on out of tune pipes.) Slaughter the bloody heathens. We'll fight for any reason. Long live House Clovenshield, and all of the lands belonging to us. Broadswords and axes swingin...

In SCA combat the penalty for getting hit in the leg is that you must then simulate oral sex on your opponent. So, let me get this straight. When you leg someone, you desire that they beat their helmet repeatedly into your crotch? When I get hit in the leg, I consider myself bested. The whole actin...
