I was fortunate enough to be in this years allied champions battle (middle). We lost because when the other team came out of res, they did it like they had a plan. We came out like we were fleeing a burning building. As a filthy mercenary, I get to see a lot of different command structures. Although...

As long as this has turned into old fart olympics, I was 11 and joined up 2 years later. And I intend to die doing this at some stupid advanced age and give the mortician a tough job prying the smile of my old wrinkled dead face. Damn kids today dont even know how to make thigh armour by duct taping...

The happy people in the first picture did not have a spectators gallery and musicians in between the fights, Fancier does not equal more fun. The squire of a great and noble house in search of the accolade is working pretty hard while at tourny. Not only does he have to beat his foe the right people...

My armour is 1/8. There is no reason to go thicker than that, especially for samurai armour with all the overlap of plates. If you went with 1/4 there are places your armour would be 3/4 thick. madness.

To give reknown or infamy where it is due, Tegas khan of the brotherhood of the five winds (now proprieter of kingslayer arms, maker of fine bows, etc) jumped off of a 6 or 7 foot bluff onto the sheild of Laurelyn Darksbane, then king of the middle. He glanced off and was beaten without mercy while ...

Off the topic for hurting people but regarding arboreal adventures Sir Kobiashi climbed a tree in a woods battle for recon purposes. Thank you. And Jehan you're a pretty snappy dresser yourself. The faceplate (somen) was made from 14 guage 1050 steel by John Gruber. It is better looking than I am. He also made my gauntlets (tekka). I see out just fine. All the holes are drilled on lines to a point at the center of each eye to max...

Lets make a couple of definitions: Hurt = pain with no lasting damage beyond bruises. Injury = damage requiring cessation of fighting and or medical intervention. I am okay with causing pain to my opponents. I am after all hitting them with a club. But injury is right out. Back about 20 years ago in...

Hey James, I didn't post this because I thought anyone did anything bad at all. I think its just fuckin hilarious. I shoot a bow in most mellees where it is allowed because I am honour bound to provide the most effective force to those who have engaged my service. But it is murder not combat. And I sympathize with those that don't like it because as a large bright red target I get shot myself. A lot. 15 times in...

It doesn't even have to be verbal to be irritating. Example: My opponent and I close and we throw a bunch of stuff and then separate. He does the " ask a dog a question" head tilt as if to say "That wasn't good?" If I had thought it was good I would have certainly said "Good." So what that head tilt...

There is a small practice on Sunday at about 2pm at the University of Chicago, at Ida Noyes Hall.
http://maps.uchicago.edu/eastquad/idanoyes.html

If the weather is good we fight on the lawn outside. It is a beautiful site.

If you are gonna show I can get the word out and some of the more interesting locals may show.
