Re: Making an effective and cool-looking longsword thread...
{LOTS of good stuff, but a wall of text, not needed for my reply} You just added something to my bucket list. I now want to have a duel with someone using short, two handed swords, a la samurai. Thank you so much. I don't know when I'll ever be ready for such a thing(I still suck something fierce w...

Heavier swords are good but you also can increase power by striking "through" your opponent. I teach my guys that all blows should lodge in their opponent's spine. If no one else chimes in for wood I will get you a piece.

Re: Worst Pennsic XL Moments!
I hate to agree with Balin. Really, I do just on general principles.
But anything that puts Fleig in a marshall's court is just wrong, in a deep disturbance in the force way.
I am not talking about the letter of the law, but rather gut feel, which has always served me well.

I use a heavy bag not hooked at the bottom. It gets moving during a workout. It usually wears a shield of some kind, set as a lefty or righty. In war season it wears a big shield. It has marks on specific targets, armpit, neck etc.

But in my 20s and 30s I would always fall back on athleticism or gimmicks in a pinch. At Pennsic I had a few lightbulbs go off after much patient instruct...
