Re: Does this count as calling it light?
I wish to elaborate further: Sometime ago, some of you, in preparation for the battle of nation, tried to fight with rebated. They tried hard because it is known that battle of nation is a full contact event with rebated. If you go to see the thread you will discover that they chewed their swords v...

My search-fu has failed: I was unable to find a picture of Nissan Maxima ever using a shield. None exist. There may be some Daimler von Benz Sword and Shield pics somewhere. Also from my pre Nissan days, but I didnt have gauntlets then. I never use basket hilts any more with any weapon form. If I d...

Ken, I would be happy to have a few passes with you with rebated steel if we could find an acceptable venue. I have a harness similar to yours. I am also not a member of the Cut and Thrust community in the SCA but have been training for eastern european combat systems. Just take it off site. Morain...

I wouldn't fight in this. If it happened in my presence I would just do pickups. Too restrictive, too many rules and the rules dont seem to add any fun.

Got Aethelmearc has definitely gotten better and I feel their was a huge improvement from the first field battle to the last. Aethelmark war practice
AWP was made of awesome. My Ballista crew are murderers. Props to Aethelmark for stepping up their game and making a real fight of it this year. Did better than I have seen them in years. Henri's guys and Sablemaul pulled more than their weight. A few 10.5 foot spears on the field added some spice. ...

Re: SCA Combat Training: Flat Snap, foot position
I don't throw a hell of a lot of flat snaps, but apparantly when I do (at 2:53) I do a little heel raise. Hits with plenty of ooomph though.
Other stuff, sometimes heel up and sometimes down and sometimes completely in the air. (4:40)

I use a natural "fight like I walk" footwork.

I'm probably too nice, but I'd just like some clarification on how you guys pull of not being nice, and not being considered an ass by the general public. It could be that I don't have enough experience with the sca at large to understand how this dynamic would work. Here are some concrete examples...

Re: What does it take to compete at the top levels of SCA He
Ciaran, It was one of my major hang-ups for a while too. I had to make a choice to "not be nice" for a while in order to get over it. There were quite a few people in Caid during that period who expressed that it was no longer fun to fight me, or that I needed to consider the other guy in...
