well for sca helm, why doesnt someone raise or weld a helm to get the shape right, then either etch or flute it to look like it has all the lil segmented plates.

hahhaha, tried it 3 times so far. ive got 3 pieces of scrap on teh floor somewhere whereever i thru it. ahhaha. maybe i'm jsut not patient enough. when i ty to go around the oval, the sides i jsut did move and warp for some reason, ah well.

hey, if the SCA lets stick jocks with non period plastic poo-poo and combat boots do stuff they better as hell not discourage people for doing a proper earlier kit. you cant have it both ways. ;)

rolling a round edge

ok HOW THE HECK do you do it. like on the top of a greathelm where the top has a lip that rivits. or the outside rim of a kettle helm brim. i just cant seem to do this for some stupid reason. what am i doing or not doing right? whats the best tools needed for this?

try this :

7.1 oz for the inner 2 layers of linen
3.5 for the inside covering that goes next to the body and a 5.7 on the outside. reason for the 5.7 is that you can find it in more colors than the 7.1

and i have no say over the rules, i just go with the flow and like it. theres no need for cotton in teh stuff we do anyways. maybe tow for stuffing beds but thats about it

Wolf, I notice the Grey's standards still have the "No cotton, even the fiber, under any circumstances" rule. ive seen something like that at home depot or was it lowes. it was in the trays where u can see whats in each try on teh side.

i've also seen people use grommets and shape them (thinner than washers)
