The best sallets I've seen some out of India are the ones that by the sword is currently offering. the first bunch m So, Caithlinn has kindly emailed me the pictures from By the Sword. Any recommendations for the portrayal suggested, or are the visors all too much? I'd be looking at "weathering" it...

Code HM 1039-D german sallet 2 is the closest thing they have. but its still way off for 1475. look for one without the lobster tail

check your local upolstry store. there is usually at least 1 in the phone book. they use raw cotton to stuff couchs etc. my mom used to do it and had a bunch laying around.

too long. if u have it that long you won't be able to point your legs to it. crotch level should be fine. mine is hip level. made mine from 4 layers of linen with tow in the center.

thanks, prob is that its an sca piece based of historical. so there no real research. take a look at most late 14th cent fingered gauntlets and you will see pretty much the same thing as the half gaut (but with no fingers ehhehe) but problem there is that it has a long cuff like 15th cent and a hand...

daves, that picture wouldnt have a sliding rivit. that inner plackart or belly piece would have internal leathers allowing it to move.

do some checking on LOTR's armour for the URIK-HI. some of the breastplates from them look something similiar to what you want

is there any secret to it? do i need to add on the sides, top and bottom for dishing?

how about the sides, do i make the lines vertical or make them have a bow outwards to allow for dishing?

i've never made a pattern before and thought i'd try it out

sounds right. sunforger is pretty good stuff to make tents out of. depending on what type machine you have it should sew it. there are lots of sca websites with great info on how to make a tent and lil details that one wouldnt think of
