Re: serious shield painters of the SCA, a question, pease.
What you guys call bedliner and line-x, etc. is a material technology called "polyurea". This is a two component elastomer that is far superior to epoxy, polyurethane and pretty much all coatings on the market. There is roller/brush applied slow cure versions that can be used for small home projects...

Re: Where are they now?
Yeah, I have thought the same a couple of times. I made my first SCA helmet 1994 I think and brought it to an event where a guy bought it from me to use as a starter helmet. The guy was british I think but I am not sure. I wonder from time to time what happened to that helmet, if its still in use or...

16 century filework?
It seems that there was not much of filework being done during the 16th century. Actually, I think the only armour I have seen with any decorative filing is this: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4003/4202409274_9e235129be.jpg Are there any other surviving pieces from the 16th century with something si...

Are you sure you want a spun top? If you want a helmet top, I would suggest Rough from the hammer. Don't know who sell spun tops.

Re: "maximilian" style fluting?
Here is an inside shot of the gorget I first posted a link to: http://www.allenantiques.com/images/A-127a-inside.jpg It's very clean and nice on the inside. Very defined "round" fluting.. For a tool to create this shape, how about a stake and chisel that looks something like this: http://rustning.se...

"maximilian" style fluting?
If you look at the fluting on 16th century armour like the maximilian harnesses and such, it looks very round in shape and usually with a line on each side that defines the fluting. Is this done by hand or with a machine like a bead roller or similar? What would the tools to make this kind of flutin...

[Pictures] Museum trip Aug. 2012 - Livrustkammaren Stockholm
I went by Livrustkammaren in Stockholm in August and tried to take some pictures when I was there. However, exceptionally bad light in the museum together with a camera that didn't want to work with me made the image quality pretty poor. I put up an album with most of the pictures anyway, if anyone ...

Re: pictures of 16th century legs?
I find it interesting that the shape of the kneecap varies so much between different legs. I have shapes "in my head" that i think look good and then things that look bad. A lot of the shapes i think look wrong seems to have been done. Perhaps this is because most of my experience comes from museum ...

Re: Late period mitten gauntlet articulation
mattmaus, the problem you are having is most likely because of the rivets ending up too far down. This is a problem I have encountered while trying to make a suitable pattern of this gauntlet type. When the pattern is modified to ground out on the rattan, the articulation point is moved downwards an...

Laminated shield for SCA?
I am going to build a couple of shields for SCA fighting. My idea is to press laminate them and I was looking for some input on the matter. Would it be a good idea to use 4mm plywood, 1mm aluminium, 4mm plywood laminated together? I was thinking of coating the shield with truck bed liner. Would this...

What the topic says. How fine finish should you give an item before etching it? I just built a home made electrolytic etching machine from a few simple items..

When will the last date for registration be? I will try to make it but I have a very complex work schedule so it is impossible for me to register until about one month before the event.
I will fly over there from Sweden if my work doesn't get in my way.

I know you can make glass beads with an up side down bucket and bellows..
Glass just needs a lot of temperature, when its warm enough you can shape it but it requires a lot of skill and the right tools, its not a simple task..
This link might give you some assistance:
