Re: WTB Replacement blades for Beverly Shear #2
I had a chat online with the staff, then ordered spare blades from Trick tools and tossed in a Whitney #5 in the order as well. (Doesn't hurt to have a few). Order system was smooth, shipping fast and everything worked fine. Only bad thing was that i had to pay about $100 in customs fee. All parts s...

Re: Recent gauntlets
Graham, I think people have been slacking when it comes to commenting your work. I think you have done a nice job. I personally prefer a wider cuff on hourglass gauntlets and I have never been very keen on brass bling myself. I havent studied enough early gauntlets yet to be able to give any comment...

It looks as if it belongs to the collar you can see sticking up under the armour. I believe it is the little loop attached to the pull tab on the zipper of his sports jacket.

I must apologize for my poor english, I ment to say "below" the pommel, as you can do often on a japanese sword. Pommels on european swords are not always as forgiving for pinkies as japanese kashira / kabutogane.

Coppergate helmet (again)
There is about 10000 posts about this helmet on the archive and that is my problem. I am trying to find high resolution pics of the coppergate helmet and/or the detailed scale drawings from the book by Dominic Tweedle. A pdf of the book has been mentioned and would be lovely to find since I havent b...

Re: Philadelphia Museum of Art
The left hand is the hand closest to the pommel.. It does make sense for me with my 23 years of japanese swordsmanship that you would want the pinky free. I would personal want the index finger free as well. The sword handles are different on japanese swords then on european so putting the pinky on ...

Re: Dusting off the cobwebs
Interesting to see the behaviour for different conditions. What happens if the weld is longer, for example if you cut the plates diagonally? Perhaps cutting the edges to a V shape << would be easier then the rounded form?

The breastplate should rest at your waist, not hang on your shoulders so it looks pretty big as it is now. Can you trace your front profile as well so we get an impression of the size of the breastplate on your body? Oh, and this thread should be of interest to you: http://forums.armourarchive.org/p...

I hope you are certain all material you are using are 1050 so you aren't mixing alloys. When odd things start happening its always good to rule out those simple things that are easy to miss.

Re: A vision of a dream - help me perfect my kit
The knees are noteably different. It seems this is how they pimped their armour in italy during the 15th century. I see no other function then decorative or perhaps added noice when moving around. Them italians liked to be seen and heard eh. Would it be safe to assume they wore knee long maille on t...

Re: A vision of a dream - help me perfect my kit
both couters and poleyns lack symmetry when you compare the top and bottom of the piece. When dishing or raising your knee, you can move the center point up a bit, This should cause the needed assymetry in the piece and also make the top part of it yield a "wider" curve then the bottom. At least, th...

Re: Riveting, curved pieces, and tight spaces
Some pieces were peened from the outside as mentioned but most (?) were peened on the inside. In Livrustkammaren in Sweden there are many pieces with the rivets all peened on the outside. It is hard to know if they are original or replaced. For what we know, they could have been replaced and altered...

WTB Replacement blades for Beverly Shear #2
I got a used B2 from Ebay and had it shipped to Sweden. This was very costly. When it arrives, the bottom blade has been grinded so it no longer works with the top blade. I need new blades for it and that is not possible to get in Europe. Anyone who has some extra blades or who can refer me to a res...

Re: Bascinet of the Wallce A69 bascinet?
They are all pretty round. The point makes them look more oblong from the top view. A good exercise is to cover parts of the picture, in this case especially the point side to let your eyes see the actual shape instead of the trickery and deception the eyes serve us when we look at the whole picture...

Were they made to sit far away from the eyes and face for safety purposes? I have never worn a visored, well made bascinet but it feels like the visibility would be minimal.
