I'm going to experiment with it until its not flinging fire everywhere... I think it'll be pretty easy to keep the fire on the blade.

Flaming swords? (SCA)

So, for those that haven't been following a couple of the other threads, a few of us (mostly just me) have been talking about fighting with rattan that has been soaked in some sort of liquid excellerant and setting them on fire just before fighting... I've been reading through the SCA weapon standar...

I used to do that so that the tip did not broom out so fast.

My only real concern with face thrusts is if we soak these sticks in lamp oil, then potentially, the whole length of the sword is filled with oil, that is on fire, that could be shot out when thrusted at something. So, I suppose it really could shoot flaming oil into your face. Probably a bad idea.

I've been stabbed on quite a few occasions with swords with no thrusting tips... for various reasons. I suppose its one of those things that can affect you in different ways for different reasons... But... I don't think a bit of padding is doing anything to make a painfull thrust anything other than...

The flexibility of the blade is inherant on the fibres being able to slide past one another. You bind that up with glue anywhere on the blade, for any reason, and you inhibit that sliding.

Period.

I think the entire concept is silly, but thats how it is.
