Wait... I said that out loud? People skate the issue all the time, but I would never, ever, tell anybody to get a 16 guage helm for sca combat. Its just dumb. Get a tank. 12guage top, 14 guage sides minimum. Anybody who tells you different is an idiot. I have a 14g stainless top and sides.... duh .....

You did it wrong. Un-sew it from the leather, and when you sew it back, make sure more of the circumpherence is sewn to the leather, and less are left in the front. Which will tighten it up, and it will hang better.

In circles the circumference is pie (3.14) times the diameter.

3.14x6= 18.84"

A 6" diameter Circle like that will fit a 17" neck with just a smidge of padding.

I would like to place it on my kitchen table, and learn how to sew together a tunic.

Then, maybe a coif.

My ultimate goal would be to be able to sew my own gambeson.

I have zero idea how to use a sewing machine, so it will be a learning process for me.

Sewing Machine Question

I would like to purchase a sewing machine.

I would like to know what the best machine I can get for @ or under $250.

Lets say $250 is my upper limit for spending on a sewing machine.

What would you suggest, and where would you purchase it from?

The question I always think when the debate of how accurate is SCA fighting compared to actual medieval fighting is: if it works now in the SCA what was stopping it from working 400 years ago? The short and sweet version. The ruleset, the equipment, the attitude, all skew what we do, from what they...
