Hey Bob, wanna come put on a class in England? http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif Its not final yet BUT if it continues the way its going I'll be leaving the country in January and will have to miss the Tulsa Fiore class (almost reason enough not to go.... almost). I'll give you a place to s...

You're right counted blows wouldn't work in melee. Its unfortunate but there are just too many cheaters out there that would "forget" the two times they had been hit in the last attack and just start back over at 0 again. Counted blows is THE way to handle tourney combat though. Nothing else makes s...

Everyone has seen mine already and I don't know that it qualifies as "bad ass" or not but it's definetly not made for a speed advantage. I have a second kit in the works as well that should compete nicely with this one on field presence. Odd thing is, I keep changing pieces, getting new gear, but st...

You know you really make some nice gear Clang. Very crisp lines. Wish I had any extra cash. I'd pick up those half gaunts just cause thier too pretty not to have. Oh, and that great helm is a really nice solution to the "I wanna wear a great helm but I'm affraid to loose the vision" argument. Keep u...

Now I'm not rules expert by a long shot BUT... Its my understanding that most kingdoms let you wear finger gaunts if the plates bridge the stick and protect from crushing damage. Some of the kingdoms have even gone so far as to consider standard finger gaunts the equivilant of hockey gloves. (damn t...

I don't know Vermin, there were just a pair of his shown on the archive about 3 weeks ago that had SCA fingers on them. Couldn't find the link for it but they looked pretty good. Sasuke's almost do that.... I can get here in them. There would be about two places he would have to modify to get the exact movement you're looking for. Not a big deal at all. However, in my particular pair's case you'd want to beef up the thumb ...

Finger gaunts in da mail! (image heavy)
You know its just got to be a good day when you get finger gaunts in the mail. These fine pieces are made by our own Sasuke and were featured on the archive a few weeks ago, but not on MY hands, and not from quite so many angles. They are stainless (Sasuke will have to tell you the gauge) since I ha...

Bob... have you thought of or tried Rawhide? Adam (WMA) once suggested using a moisted rawhide dog bone to edge a shield with, the same idea could work for a sword.... simply wet the bone, untie it, stitch it together to make a sword condom of sorts and slide it over the sword. Once it hardened I wo...

Sweet gaunts Sasuke, can't say as I've seen a historical example like that but its a nice extrapolation from what there was to what is needed. Looks as though my finger guants aren't too far off away from a similar level of protection, though its obvious the full bridge isn't present in mine like th...

Sarnac, problem is, isn't that how armour is put on.... by strapping it? (just picking nits) I use to have a buddy that fought spear in melee. Did a great job, saw him take more than one tourney with it. must of been an 8 footer (IIRC) and he used a small oval buckler with a punch thrust tip on it (...

I certainly didn't have any historic precidence for the bucklers when I asked for them and got the idea from Cad's site for dealing with both picky kingdom rules, and mass weapon combat (my rules get picky when wielding pole weapons with finger gaunts) The thumb is the only thing not directly protec...

Tybolt, Though I haven't seen them yet I would assume they are articulated on leathers as I have seen on nearly all finger gaunts I have seen. Sasuke can give you the specifics of what he did, but thats my guess. If you are interested in constructing finger gaunts yourself pick up Brian Price's book...
