Re: Reviews/Help Wanted: Paper on Crusader Knights
I added this reply to an inquiry posted on my thread over at Myarmoury. I'll throw it in here for those who may be interested in reading. Thanks again! -------------------- It's based strictly between the First and Third Crusades and focuses almost entirely on Eastern primary sources such as Usama I...

Reviews/Help Wanted: Paper on Crusader Knights
Hello folks, I have a paper that I wrote in college that I'm planning to redevelop into a more academic piece for possible publishing. It's about the relationship between Crusading knights' armament and tactics, and how the two aspects were critical to the success of the mounted charge. I would like...

Re: Vito's Minions Roman HDPE Roman Lorica Segmentata
They make spray paint now that's meant to be used on plastics, including base coat primers. I'll bet it would hold up on the surface a lot better than one can imagine. And how often does one fight in their stuff anyway? Get hit a few times a week at practice and a few more times a day at War or tour...

Re: Vito's Minions Roman HDPE Roman Lorica Segmentata
Actually, considering the armor is plastic and most of the fellows are actually wearing Roman style helmets, the silhouette of their group is pretty neat... I believe I saw you guys marching across camp a couple of Pennsic's back. Spray paint the plastic silver to make it look like metal, as a loric...

Yes, obstructed from view. You can't have coat tails hanging down that may make it randomly into a 'concealed' weapon.Peikko wrote:Kilian_the_warlike wrote:... as long as there is no chance of it being obstructed...is that what you meant to say?

Re: Was England laging behind other areas of Europe?
Lagging behind in what regard? If you're just considering architecture, which I hope is the case, well... One has to imagine the society in which major structures were meant to be built and function within. High nobility in England were busy building dense fortifications to keep charge of their land...

That is an Armour Archive pilgrim's badge! Who makes these?!? Grimr As mentioned in my post, the pilgrimage badges are exclusively from Billy & Charlie's Highest Quality Pewter Goods. The badge next to it was 'specially made for Sir Gaston and his Pennsic House, and given by him and myself last yea...

Kilian, I'm not sure where you're coming from, unless if modern engineering is your only interest in this matter. The first picture you present is of a modern reconstruction of a Celtic sword with a leaf blade that lacks much historical precedence, if any... The second image is from my friend Jeroen...

Not the 'Armies of Agincourt,' James - if you were countering my post, that is. The Campaign series title "Agincourt" illustrated by Graham Turner is that of which I spoke!

Xiphos didn't have tangs... Nor were they bronze, but perhaps my eyes just deceive me... Anyway, I guess you could make it look like one alright. Just isn't quite right.

The Osprey Warrior title English Medieval Knights 1400-1500 and the Campaign titles for Agincourt and Orleans are all great visual aids with a decent mix of photographic references, to get things rolling. Good luck!

Re: Show off your Soft Kit 2012!!
Okay, so I've been holding off to show my soft kit for some time now because there are a few details it's lacking. Alas, today I am extremely bored so figured "why the hell not?" even though some of these details have yet to be added/changed. This kit is based primarily off of images from the Codex ...

Re: Mike Loades tests Egyptian Scale Armor
As far as I remember, having not researched this in a while myself... The original specimen(s) of the scale armor discovered in Tut's tomb was crafted from rawhide, and this is confirmed due to the presence of other leather items in the tomb, such as shoes. The stagnant air in many Egyptian tombs th...

I'd really enjoy attending as a spectator/squire to the US team one of these coming seasons. It certainly seems to be taking off into all kinds of fun! Good luck to the new European teams and their formation.

Mike Loades tests Egyptian Scale Armor
My friend Todd Feinman made a section of Egyptian hide scale armor based on original finds from Tutankhamun's tomb and paintings from the tomb of Ramesses III as inspiration for the painted pattern. It was created for Mike Loades to test in an upcoming special on Egyptian warfare, and Mike was kind ...

Aye, 'tis a pity, but this will definitely be a lesson learned. No more nice armor that isn't custom ordered! I'd suggest making the lames cover more of the outside of your foot. They'd look better if they were fit for you, rather than based upon the original image's proportions.Chris Gilman wrote:As for larger sabatons, that is the style of the early 14th C. But it doesn't look right.

Hey Chris,
Was waiting for an update. Glad this show's back on the road! Keep us posted until Pennsic time. Are you still toying with the idea of having the harness in a 'ready' state by then? Cheers!

Just as inspiration and for practical advice, a leather anime can look pretty good and isn't really too hard to make, either! Here's one I did a while back. Wish I'd finished the whole cuirass rather than just the breastplate. Also, after hardening the individual plates and riveting it together it w...

Re: Landsknecht helmet by Robert Mazza
Let me be the first to say "dope!" This style of helmet is one of my favorites. I wouldn't be sure about calling it a landsknecht piece, though. It's far more likely to have been used by a cavalryman during the time period of its use, in the 1510s.

Mine closes just like the originals apparently were, Vlad. It has those three brass rings on either side and they're tied shut with laces. It takes five laces to secure the entire spolas and that's that. You can see it pretty clearly in the first picture on this thread. Cheers!

Genghis Khan Exhibit - Field Museum, Chicago
