I've studied gladiator equipment some, and must admit I've never seen a helmet quite like that one. It may be a modern design, or a crude attempt at recreating another piece. I'd have to do some research before I could figure out what it is based on, if it's historical... It does look awful silly, w...

Star Wars/Misc. Books for Sale!

Got some books for sale. Right now I'm really low on cash, so this stuff is being parted with! I'd never thought to sell books, but I suppose this is what it comes down to. -Budge, Sir Wallace. Egyptian Religion . Hardcover, 1959. Used but in good shape. 225 pages. $5.00 -Dorset Press. The Iliad and...

Hey Lorccan, Thanks for the advice. I think I'll buy the tip from Mandrake right now (literally) and when it comes in, which will definitely be before I attend any practices, I'll put it on and then add more tape over what I've got already. I had a feeling I didn't have enough, anyway, so that'll wo...

Hey D., I'm 6' tall. I want to use a 40" stick because that's the usual length for a knightly sword of the era I'm doing. I have two 37" pieces and another 40" piece that I can use after this sword takes it's beating. I'm doing to try some latigo leather lace for the lanyard. I'm sure it's strong en...

Help: Non-foam Thrusting Tip and Lanyard!

Hello folks, I'm just in the process of finishing my first SCA-legal sword. It's got a baskethilt I purchased from Von Sussen and has a 40" piece of rattan from Icefalcon through it. I put a double layer of strapping tape over most of the surface, and then tightly wrapped it with duct tape. I rounde...

Hey guys,

I didn't realize that people didn't have any problems with them! It seems as though globose-faced visors are SO much more popular that I figured there was some kind of discrepency when using these!

SCA: Hounskull bascinets? Yes/No?

Hello, I'm assuming the reason we don't see hounskull visors in the SCA has to do with people not liking the pointed noses in combat situations... But, are the rules expressely against using hounskull bascinet visors? I can imagine that if the angle of the cone wasn't too sharp, the "no more than 1/...

SCA: 16th century armor, anyone?

Hey guys 'n gals, Curious about why I never seem to see any 16th century harnesses (beyond the occassional Maxmillian look) in the SCA for heavy combat?
