Cameron, Anything you can come up with would be very appreciated! Nick, Measurements? Wow! Do you still have them? Although my main concern is getting the angles right on the upper pieces, the overall meansurements of the pieces would be awesome, too. If you have them, please share! You can email th...

The piece should take on some wild warpage during the forming of the knuckles. I wouldn't try to put too much of the proper curvature in it beforehand, or you'll have a hell of a time getting it back to the right shape afterwards, anyway. -Gregory- (This is based on what I've read, and the bits of m...

Okay, I'm glad I know about the length, now. I'll take it that getting 3/8ths won't be too bad. 14 gauge steel is 0.075" thick, and this particular sheet (where we used electronic calipers on it) is 0.074." So, right on the money. That times two is .15", which is less than half of .375", and that's ...

Indeed, Justin, I'll be making a pattern. I said that in the post just above yours. Rivets, I already have the site, but I'm not sure about all of the specifics. 3/8ths body diameter is huge, though. I'm probably going to go with 1/4 inch. I suspect I'll go 1/2-5/8th" in length, as well. Actually, I...

Hey Konstantin, You do realize the seeing out of an unmodified Pembridge won't be too great, right? Indeed. I plan on wearing a bascinet under most circumstances, although having one of these, well, to have, will be nice! The added plus of possibly having it to fight in will just be that much nicer!...

Alaric, You're looking at it from the outside, though, from a neutral point. From the inside, if you are saying yours is true, it's impossible for the other to be, as it would defy what you consider "truth." You and Effingham/whoever else was making the other point are both making sense, but you're ...

David, May I ask the benefits of getting such pieces done in leather? Are they stronger or do they have more life-span? More breathe to them? Etc... I haven't heard of any historic pieces from the Medieval era that support them being made from leather, but if there were, I'm sure you'd know about th...

Indeed. I regularly expect neither. I can generally cite the inaccuracies on someone's outfit around there before they can, it seems. Alas, it is the people who think they CAN educate others that make me feel sorry for the general public at the faires! Those who know too little or have a false under...

Buying Rattan to store a while: Good idea?
Hey folks, I'm pretty certain that rattan can be stored for long periods of time (year+) but want to double check before I invest any money in pieces I may not use for some time. Do rattan staves that just sit around for a while need any kind of upkeep, etc..? I live in a dry climate, and am assumin...

http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/files/hussar_armor_129.jpg I really like this one. I'm curious if greaves would ever be worn below the lamed, upper legs? I know they weren't called "half-harnasses" for nothing, but, I'll ask anyway! Thanks for all of the pictures and information, Ahriman! Yo...

Armor you see at non-SCA Events!
Hey guys, Because we haven't quite jumped on the SCA wagon yet, and don't have armor yet, my friend Justin and I usually vent our need to be around people who are somewhat like us (in that they like history, although many don't quite appreciate it as much!) at Renaissance faires. I often see the jou...

It looks like you have a nice design, down! It just looks a bit bulky, still.
I'm sure you saw this already, but it might help if you haven't... Dan's latest gorget, for Millenium Lancelot.

Cheers, and good luck!

I'll pipe up in response to ML's last post. I understand where you're coming from, Lancelot, but Budo made his point right above me. If to a Buddhist, their religion is "truth" then they have the right to say so. If a Christian believes his is truth, then he has the same right. Budo covered the rest...

Yes, it would be a rivet for holding a crest box, which would be situated in between those ridges on the skull. The box would have a horsehair crest, like later Hellenic and Hellenistic examples. The rivets with ties would likely be considered a primative form of suspension for a crest box. Later, p...

As for the claim that Mycenaean warriors wore no armor, how do you explain the most recent finds at Thebes, or the Dendra Panoply, or scales found in Mycenae, or numerous other finds. We know ancient Greeks (pre-Hellenic) wore Bell Cuirasses, such as those found at Argos. We know they had greaves, s...

This is all bunk, to be honest. Including the dates for the Trojan War. No one even knows if a literal war based on Homer's stories did take place! This book is from 1963. There have been more invaluable finds pertaining to the Mycenaean era than ever since that time. Every speck of information you ...
