First, as one of the "bronze age enthusiasts," I'll note that the linothorax as most would think of it, from all evidence except for Homer, was not a Bronze Age creation. It was rather an Iron Age one, dating to the beginning of the classical era. I personally am now making my own Mycenaean greaves ...

That would be William's half brother, Odo. He was the Bishop of Bayeux. He fought with a mace, and it's been supposed that it was to "wield a weapon that may not have drawn blood from the enemies... This, I believe, is myth. It's more likely he wielded it as a symbol of his rank, and also because he...

Hey Freiman, I love everything you've said! Your post has been one of the most informative to me yet, simply because you touched on lots of bases that I'd been curious about. Your idea about my goals are correct, indeed, and I thank you for the compliment about them as a whole! The one thing that I ...

Hey David, I have a fascination for the broadsword, and would love to attend! My parents are going to talk it over this evening. I'm in Central California, and my mom doubts that she'd let me drive, so I may have to save money for a flight. But, I think it would be worth it! I'll register tomorrow, ...

William, Thanks for the "analysis" as I'll call it;) Very interesting to get your perspective on that situation! Smitty, I didn't mean to bash Nordwache. I liked the fighters I met, and they seemed to really be appreciative of the sport. Heck, you might have even been there? It's just that I didn't ...

Thanks for the replies, guys! I'm really surprised at the amount of men that would have been armored, after all! I've got a gut feeling I won't be able to attend, and that the Bronze Sword festival will take presidence over it, if I do get to make a trip (hey, free swords!) But, I'm glad to know abo...

Hello folks, Thank you for all of the replies. I'm not sure if Justin checks into this particular forum on the archive, but I'll tell him about the thread, so he can see everyone's opinions, as well. I now realize just how important it is to get some diversity in our opposition, and that fighting ea...

Hey Dalewyn and Alcy, Justin and I are constantly striving to fight better as we do now, and I'm sure it will be the same for the SCA. And we don't plan on doing it by ourselves. I plan on attending practices for quite some time, but am trying to put things in order ahead of time. What I'm asking is...

Fighter Practice for those with no group?
Hey guys, My good friend Justin is going into the SCA, and I was planning on it until recently. I turned around and resold my $800 or so of armor that I had already gotten for my 14th century kit, as I couldn't possibly afford to finish it anytime soon. I was going to back out of the SCA in favor of...

Hastings 2006, realistic?
Hey guys, I'm going to try hard to get either to one of two events later in the year, in England. It'll either be Neil Burridge's Bronze Sword Festival (small event for BA enthusiasts) or else Hastings 2006. I thought of something this evening, though... How many people at the event (soldiers) dress...

I think you should read it again too, it is NOT complete, legs have NOT been shown, full suit has NOT been shown. Read a little closer guys. I'd have to say we weren't at fault on that one... The entire thread up to this point was about the cuirass, and you never said anything about the entire suit...

The last one is awesome. In a million years, I'd never have thought about a jungle gym making a good base in such an activity! Magnus, That looks lovely! As Thomas said, the bluing looks wonderful! May I ask if you're planning on dulling the mail to match the aged look that the bluing gives the helmet? Indeed, I'd hoped to use it for SCA, but didn't have the funds pouring in to finish the kit! It was going to be 1340's. The Romance was the main influence for this piece, and I did not bother researching any real visors in the process, although I can't speak for Dave. The site that those images are ...

Patric, I apologize, it did in fact come off as a "matter-of-fact" looking post. Not seeming very helpful, but rather like your were trying to state something that I was obviously having a problem seeing. Morgan, I didn't say I was offended at all. I said that I found his tone rather unnecessary (or...

Patric, The images only expired this morning, after I made my last post. Chill. I got mine several days back. Because I have lots on my plate at the moment, I've only browsed it. Although, I have looked through it several times, an...

The reason Beathan sells his stuff so cheap is because Armour & Castings is located in the Ukraine, and they don't seem to need as much money as American armorers to get by! His reviews are always great, his shipping costs are not much worse than anything else, and his turnaround times always seem e...

A Scottish Targe I Made.
Hey folks, This is a 17th/18th century Scottish Targe I made this weekend for fighting with. My friends and I use 3/4"-1" thick wooden dowels wrapped in layers of duct tape for mock combat. We hit pretty hard, and the combat is fun. The only part of us that usually gets hurt are our hands, as we slo...

I definitely want a kilt, as it is a Ren' Faire outfit, and I want all of the fools who run around at those things to recognize my kit's origins without having to ask. Hey folks, I've got a Deepeeka Imperial Italic G helmet, or Deepeeka item #AH-6056 for sale. It's in great condition, and I've not worn it since bought from a vendor very recently. Renaissance "Classical" Armor Examples, please!
Hey folks, Looking for detailed images of armor from the Renaissance period that was inspired by the ancients. I've seen a couple of suits that had muscular breastplates and engraved greaves and vambraces, for example... I found a picture of a little model kit from Italy (shoot me, if you must) that...
