The vision is surprisingly good. Ask Justin about it, he was really shocked. Neither of us will be old enough to fight in wars for over a year, so I've got plenty of time to get an interchangable grill, which I do plan on doing eventually.

The visor isn't as thick as the rest, it's probably like 16 gauge. Cet would have to confirm the exact gauge, but I believe he mentioned it would all be higher than 16. Yes, I do like the look with the heat marks. I'm thinking of blackening the whole thing, along with the rest of my steel armor (wh...

My new bascinet by Cet!

Hey folks and flies! I've got a new toy, whoo hoo! Dave (Cet) made me this beauty based on some images from The Romance of Alexander, dated to 1346, I believe... I believe the visor and helmet are both 12/14 gauge mild steel, and will be used in SCA combat. He added a simple micro-foam padding to it...

I am curious Owen, what kind of kit would that be for?

I'm guessing Owen would use it as the base for a Lorica Hamata or the characteristic style of shirt worn by the Gauls, with the large flaps on the shoulders, which were often worn by Roman cavalry, I believe.

Dipping armor in Zinc

Hey folks and flies, I was curious if anyone does this? I believe that GDFB coats their helmets in zinc, and I know lots of modern-made mail goes through the process as well to prevent rust. For SCA-armor, such as a bascinet, gauntlets, couters, spaulders, poleyns and sabatons (what I'll be wearing)...

Sir Mord, "TROY" was based nearly a millennia before the Hellenistic Era began. It is based during the late citadel era for the Mycenaean Culture, and would be approximately 1200 BC. I'd personally hand-brusk something like that. I'd put the lines on it, cut out strips to protect the lines, and then paint on the sides of them, one color first... Let it dry. Protect the new lines, and then paint the next part. I really couldn't guess what Patrick used to get such a fine job done,...
