I take this question a bit differently than most in here... I think the choice is being given as you can ACHIEVE either one or the other... Not that you magically get one, and will get the other over time. If I knew that over the rest of my career in live-combat, I could either look really good and ...

I saw it once on Saturday, and once on Sunday... I'll probably see it a few more times, depending on which girls I can drag along to the show with me! I really was impressed. As Orazio mentioned, a big critique of mine would be that there were no hosen/braies worn. Other than that, we see shirts res...

I like the look... I seemed to have guessed correctly when I figured that you'd be putting together a Norman kit, 'eh? I personally think that cutting a bit off of the edge of the coif wouldn't be a bad idea. It does seem REALLY long. Also, painting the helmet as you figured you might would be prett...

Lewis Moore "Rus" Helmet w/aventail for sale! $200
Hey folks, I purchased this helmet from Lewis Moore of Knight's Armoury a few months back (He's since stopped taking commissions on a regular schedule, I believe). I've worn it to a couple of events and people have really found it cool, and it fits me great. But, I'm quickly adopting more accurate g...

I own one of these Mainz gladius's from Deepeeka. A cool sword for the price! I got mine on www.by-the-sword.com as well as the other seven Deepeeka swords I have. I'd suggest goin' through them for a vendor choice. Good return policy and pretty good quality control (although most of that will fall ...

I never liked that triangle... In most cases, it proves true, but there are always exceptions. Generally, those exceptions must be people who have other things to do beside armouring, and are merely using their "free" time doing this. They are the ones than can take the time to do things quickly and...

I own a Kingslance shirt. It is the 16 gauge galvanized/zinc coated butted one, and weighs about 30 lbs. It's long on me with my 38" chest, which was cool, so I made it into a "cavalry" shirt, sorta. The links hold together well, but I don't do SCA combat *yet* and would have serious doubts about it...

That is in fact a properly done kit from around the era of the Persian Wars, from between 490-480. It's a Spartan panoply.* I believe it's Kevin Hendryx's... Can't be sure, though! I actually think that if it is, then our very own D'antioche made the helmet and cuirass! Nice joke, Egfroth. -Gregory-...

Oh, bother... That confused me. I'm aware of both areas, but was under the impression that Tassilos was referring to the village near the castle, since he mentioned the castle. I've also read (I think!) that the East German city was in fact also influenced by Slav names, and that "Lubawe" was later ...

Hey Sir Esme, I had known that "Lubawe" was the original Slavic name of the castle, but I was under the impression that the spelling "Liebau" would not come into play until sometime later than the era I'm talking about. Do you have any more information on it? By the way, have you been to the castle?...

Thanks for the help, folks! I wasn't really spending time "researching" this name. I just jumped on some examples, tried to figure it out the best I could, and created it from that. No more Bruder! Now, was Gregorius an appropriate German name in the 14th century? I'd like to sound German, for sure!...

German name, did I do it right?
Hey folks and flies, I just recently was looking over all of the neat titles listed in the Manessa Codex, and decided on a name for myself in my circa. 1340 German persona. I'd like to go by "Herr Bruder von Lubawe." Castrum Lubawe is the original name, if I understand correctly from the limited sou...

At Thermoplyae there were allied troops in the vanguard with the 300 Spartans as well. These numbered about 2,800 according to the war memorial supposedly seen by Herodotus (Connolly) but this number is fully almost 1,000 more than he mentions. It's been lead to believe that the 900 or so extra were...

No javelins for a hoplite at this time. They fought in tight phalanxes, so, they were no longer used, with the spear taking over. The spears were about 8' long, in comparison to the Persian spears that were about 2 meters, so it gave considerable advantage at close battles such as Thermoplyae. Obvio...

Jason's right about this one. There are plenty of pottery depictions of the "Italo-Corinthian" helmets being worn. As time went by, the occulars would grow much closer together, and the helmet shape changed dramatically, to where it could only possibly sit on top of the head, and not over the face. ...

As long as it has a drag tip, just hold down the trigger and trace the pattern, nothing to it.
