Well, as a MAJOR generalization, it does in fact fall under the term "coat of plates," but according to most, you'd consider it a form of brigandine, which is in itself a style of coat-of-plates, so to speak. The terms have become less of one and the same, it seems, though. Especially around here. -...

Hey guys! I got my order in today! Everything fits perfectly, and I have not had any problem with the braies slipping. They held the chausses, which are a tad bit loose (except in the feet, where they're a PERFECT fit, down to a slight squeeze!) and I had no problems sitting, jumpin' around a bit, a...

Hey Christian, Thanks for the reply. May I ask if the turnshoes will be stocked in size 12? I think I'm going to purchase a pair of the 14th century shoes, and then wait for the turnshoes afterwards. I'll use the latter for historic reenactment, and the "14th century" shoes for combat, etc... -Grego...

Plus, if you break it down, it is a coat, and it is made of plates of metal, thus Coat of Plates. The claimed title is a bit decieving... It's more like a brigandine than a coat-of-plates, by far... And even then, you should call it a "fantasy brigandine." I'm not tryin' to be an ass, but knowing w...

Looks good. May I ask what type of tutorials from this site you used for that? It seems to be more of a cross between a proper brigandine and a Braveheart (aka- fantasy) style "coat-of-plates." What is generally referred to as a coat-of-plates in the historic sense of the word is a type of body armo...

WANTED: Brown leather turnshoes, size 11/12
Hey folks, I'm lookin' for someone who is either willing to part with, or to make a pair of turnshoes. My feet are about 11 inches long, and 4.5" wide when flat on the ground at the widest point. I'd like the shoes in brown leather, and to be rather "generic" as I'll be using them for 12th-14th cent...

Orazio, I was under the impression that for an outfit from around this time an aketon would be more appropriate than a pourpoint... What exactly is the advantage of having a pourpoint over an aketon? I'd personally like both mine and Justin's outfits to have padded sleeves on their garments, which w...

@ Rey- m From what I've seen of the SCA, I'd try to get anything fixed that isn't made or worn with one of these two purposes in mind... (and hopefully both will be considered) A) Being historically accurate for the portrayal of the fighter. B) Being durable for the safety of the fighter yet conceal...

It depends on how much you have left over. My 14th century suit of armor, which actually only is going to incorperate a small amount of plate armor, is going to cost me over $2,000 for quality items. But, that's without making much of it myself. If you have the steel for the plate armor, you should ...

Splinted Armor- 1320?
Hey folks and flies, My friend Justin is currently putting together his SCA gear at a less rapid pace than I am, because I'm able to afford to buy more things than him since he's so lazy... Not to be nitpicky, but wasn't most of the Rohirrim armor made from leather? Besides mail, you are correct. But, members of the royal family, high guard, and obviously some other individuals had plate. The plate of the king and his nephew was covered in rich leather, but definitely metal beneath. D...

you might be a little careful when you wash yours. That's what I was thinking too, David... I'll only be taking the linen items to the dry-cleaners, actually. The plate placements on the coat are not overlapping, which is not correct. Wulfe, that is not a coat-of-plates. It's a mid-13th century armored surcoat, like the one we have a pattern for here on the archive: m The plates did not overlap on these. I don't plan on putting horns on any of the great ...

Great Helm patterns, circa 1250
Hey guys, I'm havin' trouble comin' up with much information for great helms from about 1250 or so. I have the Osprey book "English Medieval Knight 1200-1300" by Christopher Gravett.
