Well, as a MAJOR generalization, it does in fact fall under the term "coat of plates," but according to most, you'd consider it a form of brigandine, which is in itself a style of coat-of-plates, so to speak. The terms have become less of one and the same, it seems, though. Especially around here. -...

Can someone say "wow!"

Now I can't wait for Dave (Cet) to finish my bascinet!

Wow! That is just too cool... I've never seen a visor that seems to flow so smoothly with the surface of the helmet, yet remain so defined as a seperate piece of metal!

Well, I've worked with Amazon a lot, and with purchases of over $50, you get free shipping anyway... So, I think I'll go that way:D

Alibris has really good prices on lots of stuff, though... I just haven't taken the plunge and made an order with them, yet!

Hey Christian, Thanks for the reply. May I ask if the turnshoes will be stocked in size 12? I think I'm going to purchase a pair of the 14th century shoes, and then wait for the turnshoes afterwards. I'll use the latter for historic reenactment, and the "14th century" shoes for combat, etc... -Grego...

Plus, if you break it down, it is a coat, and it is made of plates of metal, thus Coat of Plates. The claimed title is a bit decieving... It's more like a brigandine than a coat-of-plates, by far... And even then, you should call it a "fantasy brigandine." I'm not tryin' to be an ass, but knowing w...

Oh, well, an armoured surcoat is an entirely different affair. Far from being the same as a "coat-of-plates." Yes, armoured surcoats are very cool, though! I plan on making one myself, for SCA combat.

Looks good. May I ask what type of tutorials from this site you used for that? It seems to be more of a cross between a proper brigandine and a Braveheart (aka- fantasy) style "coat-of-plates." What is generally referred to as a coat-of-plates in the historic sense of the word is a type of body armo...

Sounds like a fun project! You don't have to worry about being "too cheap" for leather, since it's actually more realistic to use canvas, in a historic sense, I believe. Interested in seein' the pictures of it all comin' together!
