Thanks for posting Jeffery, and everyone else! I'm in the middle of making my order, now, actually! After I get this order in, and get to inspect the sizing and quality for myself, I hopefully plan to make another order in the near future. I'll get an extra Saint Louis shirt, braies and maybe some o...

Hey Caithlinn, The shoe size posted is only really about one size too small, so I don't think I'll have that much of a problem with the biting. I just don't want it to be so small (or unstretchy) that it will be too irregular. If I got a size that fit my foot, the rest of the leg would be too large....

Sadly, the wool items aren't available in purple in wool, so these are the colors I'm getting: -Grey wool chausses -Blue-grey wool tunic -Royal blue hood Karl, thanks for the information. I don't think I'll be worrying about fraying, etc... I'm going to be wearing an aketon over the whole shirt, and...

I'd say "Yes", particularly the chausses/hose. It's the only way to show off those shapely calves! Wool is more stretchy than linen, isn't it? The chausses I'm ordering have a posted shoe size that is a tad small on me in reality, but the other measurements are okay. Would the wool probably be safe...

Okay, I have a question. I'm going to make an order from Historic Enterprises for 14th century clothing to wear both under my SCA armor and during events. Living in the heat, low humidity and relative dryness of Central California, is it worth the extra $20 to have my tunic and chausses wool? -Grego...

Yeah, I was actually just thinkin' about that. The only color options that they have for the hood are black, forest green, royal blue, plum and red . I think that with the gold garters and brass/bronze fittings on them and the belt, which have the same shiny gold look, and the brown leather on the b...

Historic Enterprises Order, what to include?
Hey guys, I'm planning on getting together a full set of 14th century clothing for use under my SCA armor as well as event-going. Eventually, I'll have a woredrobe, but for now I have to stick with the basics and get one "complete" outfit. I'll be fighting as a Southern German knight from about 1340...

Hey guys, Thanks for the kind words! The fur is raw wool, which I get in packages of random pieces from The Leather Factory, stitched to material backing. I plan on getting a leather awl soon, so I won't need to punch the excessively large holes any longer, after that! My friend Justin and I are wor...

Mr fur caps, need feedback!
Hey guys, I just finished my third fur cap last night. The very first one was a mistake, and has been given to a friend. My brother is the "owner" of the second one, which is made from six panels and was air dried, with white sheep's wool around it's base. The third was made from four panels with th...

Or are we talking about paid soldiers who were specifically archers, or are we talking about elite bodyguard units? When I think of "english archer" I'm thinking of the males who started training on the village common every Sunday from age 7 onwards...not Nobles and the household retinues and bodyg...

Hey Irish, As much as I've thought about that, I really don't frequent any archery forums. I'd rather not join a forum, rush in and sell something, and then not come back. I also wouldn't have anyone who could "trust" that I actually go through with transactions, etc... But, thanks for the idea! It ...

Hey Irish, Knowing Ray from chatting with him on Arador, I'm pretty sure this is not an SCA outfit. He does all kinds of full-contact, but has only been limited to his involvement in the SCA, thusfar. Please correct me if I'm wrong, Ray! I believe he made this outfit purely for using during full-con...

The dome has 60 welds because it is made of 20 separate pieces, 4 comprising the bands, the 4 top crosses, 4 large "Y's" and 8 small "Y's". It adds up fast. I didn't mention the "excessive welds" because I knew all too well that this piece was made from many different pieces. For anyone interested,...

Gads! May I ask if there was any reason in particular why the date of 1180? Manzikert was in 1071, and previous to that is considered the only era in which the Byzantine armed forces were considered "invincible." Afterwards, and even during Manzikert, mercenaries played a large role in the Byzantine...

As for Joe Piela's work it seems to vary dramatically in quality, Some (perhaps even most) of his stuff is just exquisite,. Yet there are some of his pieces you couldn't pay me to take. I find it an odd dynamic. He is obviously very talented...but uneven, IMHO, in applying his talent. Well, what do...

Sounds like it'll be a neat project! The Montefortino helmet has always been a favorite of mine! I recognize the piece by Joe Piela easily enough, but not the SCA version. Perhaps adding a citation to the maker of the two examples you provided will cause less confusion in the future. Can't wait to s...

There were "some" women soldiers, undoubtably. But, for the most part, unless if they were part of the upper class and rode with their husbands/fathers from place to place in armor (I know we not too long ago talked about a large tapesty that portrayed a couple of late 15th century women in full-pla...

How about early 14th century? Although there are folks doin' it, it's still a rather underpopulated area of the SCA, if you ask me. I'm personally working on a Southern German Knight from 1340. I'm curious about SCA fighting in full mail. It's been a dream of mine for over a year, since I've been back into reenacting (even before I was into the Medieval Era, again!) that I'd someday have full mail. I know that a full riveted set of steel would be WAY out of my reach, as I couldn't afford t...
