Firstly Wil, I'd like to say that the humor in here is simply foul, and unnecessary. As I said before, badmouthing a man who we have no idea of the whereabouts of, besides the fact that he is still taking commissions sometime, is pathetic. He's added helmets to his site as recently as 4 months ago. ...

Details are of the utmost importance to him. Oh, dang... I could have had credit for givin' you that idea, but for some reason I did...

Thracian perhaps, I think they're outside the SCA period though Yeah, those can be called Murmillo, or Thracian. They're outside of the usual "Period", but there're enough Romans around to make it semi-safe to be a gladiator... My outfit, which is still a secret, will be one of the most "off-period...

Hey Hal, The second two there look pretty good, but I'm under the impression that the Coppergate helmet dates to about 650 AD or so, approximately... Or somewhere within that period. Not quite back to 550, or even 600, if I'm not mistaken. By the way, I love your Romano-Sassanid helmet! -Gregory-

Looks promising Kilkenny! I have a rather general question about the piece at hand... Why are they called rerebraces? I've noticed that Uilleag calls his a "rebrace", but I've heard the same piece called a rerebrace and a rebrace several times... So, what is it? And why is it that instead of the oth...

Alcyoneus, That's an incredibly interesting Chalicidian helmet that you have shown there! I've never seen that one before! Adam, I doubt that leather scales could be sewn in a sewing machine. You would have to do it by hand. Think of it as sewing heavy leather rather than sewing cloth. You would probably need an awl and sinew or heavy-duty thread. Not really true. Leather sewing machines, although expensive ($1,500 or ...

There is no historic evidence for such things being done, so I'm not sure about that. Making leather things are always fun, but, well, there's so little surviving evidence for it being used as armor, especially in Europe during the Middle Ages, that it's hardly worth your time, if you're looking for...

Michael, Craig certainly does swell greaves, but those are about 600 years later than the Trojan War era! Those are classical from the Iron age, about 500 BC.. We're talking Bronze Age, about 1200 BC.
