Very nice looking! I like the blued surface, if you'd call it bluing... Darkening, however you want to put it:p Makes a nice contrast from the trim and cross!
Good job, once again, Hal'!

Actually the clothing would fit you fine. I was thinkin' about it later, and realized that it probably wouldn't be too bad. But still, I don't have the money for it! *Sigh* my next $2,000 or so will be sucked up by a little bit of finishing projects for my three Bronze Age kits, the rest of my Vara...

Four. *Doesn't feel like asking why.* If I had $250 and weighed about... 50 more pounds, I'd grab the garb. Very nice lookin' stuff, with the proper aged look to make the difference between the usual "Faire-going Reenactors" and "Living History Reenactors". Alas, I have about... $20 to spend in cas...

Hey Orc, That thing looks worth $40 or so to me! If anything, I'd encourage you to take the neck-guard off. Even if you found a historic example to base it on, that particular guard still looks ugly! One option you could go with for the aventail would be to leave the cheek-pieces, and even drill som...

Yeah, on that note... I collect pictures in image folders on my PC of helmets from all over the internet, and Erik's Wenceslaus, Coppergate and now both of these images are in my "Others" folder in the front. With a couple more nice helmets like these, he'll have enough to have a full folder to hims...

I really enjoyed the film and found I could easily forgive the innacuracies and just be entertained. Cheers, Tim Here, here! Especially the second time! The first time I was really tryin' to look at all of the armor and stuff, to find the inaccuracies. But, after I'd done that, and got to lay back ...

Works better with the period at the end of the URL, Captain Bligh. Yeah, ummm... *Runs for edit button*. What did you say? I think the whole thing about shiny armor not working in movies is a load of bull. Seen Excalibur? Why would any director want THAT movie to make theirs look bad? There is a li...

Very nice looking! It's too bad Lewis got a job for the next several months. Hey Wil,
Here's a good thread on original Chinese Bronze Swords...
http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread ... genumber=1
And here's one started by Stud' himself, that he was obviously to lazy to look up...
This is particularly about the Ebay blades.

Hope those answer any questions you had, Wil!

Hacksaw, thanks for the links and advice. I am a very enthusiastic reenactor, and wouldn't just "jumble" together an unhistoric set of armor, though. I'm carefully choosing what to buy so that WHEN I buy it, I get what I want. What will I do with $500 of budget armor after I buy my nice outfit? I'll...

No problem, Tim. No offense taken! Here's a blurred picture of the Pass Lueg helmet, being aproximately dated to the Trojan War era, but being from rather far away (Germany). Best example of the era, for sure, that's metal, at least! The whole thing is very embossed, mainly with dots, and a couple o...

*Cough*
And of course, no one links to MY greaves... Sheesh...
www.bronze-warrior.com/mycenaean.html
I should boot you bums from the BAC for that...
Also, Tim, the likely date for the Trojan War (leaving the argument about the Dark Ages out) would be about 1200-1150 BC.

Bamos, the reason is simple: Armor. The armor that the people in Charlemagne's time and area would wear would be either: A. No armor. B. Mail and helmet. No plate at all, no documented lamellar, etc... I don't even think we have sources for aketons or other quilted armor from the era in Western Euro...

I personally want the whole look with the mysterious leather near the top, so I'm sticking with the "Varangian Bra" approach! So true, Hew. I actually don't plan on doing a lot of the feasting, etc... It would drag me into those despised politics more! And waste more of my time... Thanks for the replies guys! I've actually considered being a 'loner' after I get into the SCA, for some time. Appease yourself by planning to do the other kits later.
