Glad you fancy them, Uilliam! I can do $25 shipped for the lantern. That's what I paid for it sans shipping, and it's brand new. Cheers.

Re: Owee
Usama wrote at the end of the 12th century, but was an old man by then and died in obscurity as Saladin's power waxed. Usama probably had most of his combat experience in the period of the 1130s-1150s, and his work is full of reminiscence. For the fellow to have been beat up on the mail it seems sur...

I've always thought it would be interesting to try making a suit like this using wire framework, paper mache, plaster and paint. Just a thought.

Re: 14th Century German Surnames
That's not true, at all. Low German was primarily used in Northern Germany and the Netherlands during the middle ages (and the dialect was Middle Low German) and was not used much for writing. In fact, one of the only major literary works of the Middle Ages in Middle Low German was the Sachsenspiege...

Re: 14th Century German Surnames
I'm assuming Folric already looked there, since he found the long list of names from 1240. If you're looking for a noble surname I wouldn't go with most (or possibly any) of the options shown on the page. They're generally the sorts of names you'd find with urban folk, and those among the working cl...

Re: 14th Century German Surnames
Names appropriate for 1240 would be useful for the period in question. The major transition in German surnames began in the later 11th century when many of the principalities started to follow more feudal hierarchies during the Investiture Conflict, in the face of the weakening German Kingdom. Then,...

Not at all... It's good to get paid for your time, though I'd contend that most professional armorers could make these spaulders in about two hours. Compare them to these spring stainless 'butterfly' spaulders offered by Stonekeep, which involve complex shaping on the top lames: http://www.stonekeep...

Re: Is something like this possible?
Very similar proposal/question here: http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=170819 Bottom line is that out of real metal it will cost at least several thousand dollars from any reputable armorer, and will be heavier than you'd ever want a cosplay costume to be. It's not impossibl...

I'm doubting it, Gunnar. To ship everything priority would have required everyone's shipping costs to be $3-5 higher than my quotes - I don't believe I ever said I was shipping Priority, just USPS insured. My first Paypal payments hit my bank on Thursday and I had no time to get to the Post Office t...

Re: FS: Four LH quality helmets
John, how've you been? That I will have to check into. It shouldn't be so expensive that it's unjustifiable, but it'll probably be in the $50 range for shipping both. I can kinda scissor the two together within the packaging to prevent them taking much extra space, so the package shouldn't be "overs...

Re: FS: Many nice 13th/14th C. clothes and accessories!
"I'll try..." Like one of my old bosses used to say, "my ball, my game." Personally I take issue with dibs because more often than not I don't receive the payments later - people back out after they don't commit to something in cold currency. Much more interested in dealing with folks who want to pa...

Hey guys, both the knife and scissors should be able to ship in very small boxes. We'll call it $8 shipping on top of the prices for each (insurance and package prices taken into account). The scissors are a bit over 6" long, Klaus. Paypal info is stated above, somewhere: wisgliebau@yahoo.com Cheers!

I'm not necessarily a fan of "dibs," folks. If you can't pay right now and know which day you will and are 100% certain that you want to, then you can state that and I'll try not sell the piece until then. Otherwise everything is up for grabs to those willing to complete the transaction. Thanks! -Ge...

FS: Halberds Kettle Helmet
Hello folks, I have for sale a kettle helmet by Halberds that I painted with acrylics. It is best fit for a 23"-24" head, though wiggle room is available on either side of that. Very nice piece with sturdy leather suspension. $200. It will come with one of the wooden helmet stands shown in the pictu...
