I wish I could have kept it around for Crossroads, Jehan! Though I may have to anyway if it doesn't sell. I'm about to start another shield, so perhaps I'll bring that... That be a secret one for now!

Lovely helm! The English word you're looking for his "close" like to "close a door." "Clothed" is to say that someone is wearing clothing or something covered in cloth.

I had a potential buyer for this but we worked out something else with his down payment, so it's back up for sale! REALLY want to get this thing out the door so I have room to store more in progress goodies!

Re: Not Armour- Soft kit embellishments
Thanks for the compliments, folks. As my soft kits have matured I've noticed that the same attention to detail applies to all aspects of historical reenactment. The finest plate harness may include an awesome array of armor but it really comes down to a multitude of details that will set it in a cla...

Re: Not Armour- Soft kit embellishments
I guess I can share a bit of my soft kit, which is rather spiced up... I pose as an early 14th century German based mainly on the Codex Manesse and similar manuscript illustrations. As Cian noted, I'd say it's less about merely having fancy tunics than about rounding out a kit with details in all of...

Re: Looking into field plate armor and how one moves in it.
There are many modern reenactors who wear highly accurate reproductions of medieval armor that can attest to a great range of mobility. Here are some videos that show some quality armor in use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ejvwbTUvtE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz7naZ08Jd4 https://www.youtub...

Re: Need help understanding this 16th century harness.
Fair enough, and I'll just go out on a limb in saying that I'd be a lot better off "Buying the whole thing" as a one time event rather than continuously adding to it over the years, even with a single talented blacksmith doing all the work. One of the most awesome modern plate armors that I've witn...

"However, the rest I cannot grasp, is it a non-fluted Maximilian design or is it some form of early peascod?" It is what it is. It's critical to keep in mind that our simplified orders of classification for anything, be it cuirasses or species of finches, is only a way to generalize about what are i...

Re: Crafting An (Mostly) Historical Heater Shield
Looking great! I have one question, the thin leather strip (like a shoe string), about 10" long running through the 2 small holes in the center of the shield and tied in a knot, called the befestigungsriemen (fixing belt) What purpose does it serve? It must have a logical function, but I cant figure...

Re: Crossroads in Time 2014
My prior Pennsic experiences were as a "working vacation" while helping to build up Chris Gilman's Italian villa and the Casa Bardicci. About half of my garb is dedicated work clothing and retains the glorious stains of sweat and mud and dyes and blood that have settled on it over the years. I wear ...

LF maker for a leather drinking costrel!
Hello, I'm looking for someone with experience making leather drinking vessels to reproduce a costrel for me. It is displayed in the Museum of London and is a rather lovely piece. I only need the plain, unstained costrel made as I can do the leather tooling and apply oil on the outside myself. I'd j...

FS: Savonarola Chair
I just purchased this chair with the intention of resale because the price was right. As it is, I'd like to pass on a good deal to an Archiver so the price is still quite a bit lower than one typically sees these for. I am asking $300 for the chair and that includes shipping. Cheers! -Gerhard (p.s. ...

I concur with the confusion above. Particularly because I know for a fact that the melodic clinking of a hauberk sounds much lovelier than the wrapping clangs of oversized poleyns...Glen K wrote:Just to clarify: You do educational presentations with armour that you know is inaccurate?

Yeah, it's Chris Gilman's. Probably write his name in the thread title and he'll pop in describing the process. I think this one's just regular ol' bluing solution, though... I recall having to clean it a bit before one Pennsic and he had to re-apply the chemical to some rusted areas on the skull. I...

I decided to jump on a set of arrows to use with my Yaap Koppedrayer 57# longbow. So, considering the rate that I lose or break them, I'll give it ...
