Re: WTS - Lonely Mountain Corinthian $225
I always loved Joe Piela's work. The Lonely Mountain Forge website was one of the first nice ones I can remember, and I would spend lots of time admiring the projects there. I hope this sells for what you're asking! It's too big for my head, alas.

I didn't mention its historical implications, Harry. I'd also dare to call the Tlingit armor you posted "odd" for the same reason - it's just a weird sort of armor. But thank you for the interesting article.

Re: FS: Rather Crazy Heater Shield $500!
By the way, this really needs to go so that I can start paying off my student loans more rapidly. I want to thank Congress from the bottom of my heart for doubling the interest on my $30,000 debt. They have done me and society at large a great favor.

Ba-da-bump! You'll seriously never get a shield this details for the same money. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to get someone to make guige straps as detailed for this kind of money...

If you're after armament and arming clothing information, pick up Volume II of Nicolle's "Arms & Armour of the Crusading Era" and also some of the Osprey titles like "Saracen Faris AD 1050-1250" and "Saladin and the Saracens." Pretty much any book by Nicolle on this period is going to be the best st...

SOLD: Some interesting loaner-type body armor.
This is some body armor that my pal picked up in a storage locker sale. He knew I was interested in armor and after I saw the stuff I offered to sell it for him here on the Archive. The quality is decent and I told him I'd try to get $80 + shipping for the lot. The chest piece is apparently assemble...

It turned out lovely, Harry! Ditto C. Gadda's sentiment regarding the research. I have two half completed boxes that aren't wholly traditional in their construction, but once they're out of the way I hope to move on to greater things. This thread will certainly be useful!

Re: Visored Greek Helmet
Sorry, but that's BS. I can't imagine who among the staff at the Met would have written that, but there is no evidence to suggest that these helmets had visors. Dozens of examples of this style of helmet from both Crete and the mainland have been discovered and there have never been any visors, nor ...

Hey Kilkenny, Yes, it is of course laced since I pre-fabricated the holes. It's not stitched! I should have been far more clear about that. I'm not sure how it could be considered a poor job, though. Those holes are each 1/4" apart, and there are over a thousand of them... It was terribly fine work,...

Duke Owain, I'm not sure that Albion's made money on their swords since they started production. It's always just been a labor of love for those folks. I believe they earn their bread money by other means. And it doesn't seem like anyone's mentioned Craig Johnson and his crew at Arms & Armor (www.ar...

I use an awl for a lot of my leather projects, Roland. This just happens to come out to about 6-7oz leather between the two pieces being brought together, and more than 500 holes would have been punched. I wasn't a fan of the idea at all and also planned initially to put an X-pattern by cross-stitch...
