The best fitting helm I ever wore, I gave away to one of my boys. That thing would stay on regardless of what happened. I could slip it on without strapping it and feel comfortable fighting in it.
You can imagine the snug factor in it.

However... Kingdom conventions may differ. Here in the East, convention of combat 13 states that the inner thigh is a kill when struck with an axe... but not a polearm. That's what I was going from.. Back in my early days, Aethelmearc was part of the East and where I got this. So I'm not totally cr...

Hip = leg with little sticks death with big sticks leg = leg with any stick. Outside of the leg, I'd agree. When I was taught fighting a blow to the inside of the leg with a mass/great weapon meant the femoral artery was hit and thus a fatal blow. The difference being where on the leg it hit.

Lax Rules of the list..

Watch this video, bout 7 seconds into this Duke Palymar lands a blow to the inside of his opponents leg. Now according to my understanding such a blow from a mass weapon is a killing blow not a leg shot.. But the guy drops to his knees and keeps fighting.. WTF?

My understanding is that the well to do Irish were about 10 to 20 ye...

Why not mail and some Davis hex pads? The mail is obviously early period and the hexpads are fairly unobtrusive under this.. You can get a shirt and the padded biker shorts which have pads on the hips as well as the thigh.
