Re: New to SCA - Requesting advice on choosing armor
Violen is right on the money here as well. Once you attend a few practices and decide "Yeah this is for me" and then you figure a budget. Then you perhaps you suffer from champagne taste on a Nasty Ice budget. knowing where you are can actually help if there are local folks who can get you...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
I'm not going to disagree with you on that Isabella but they do at least participate on the field I participate on, so from my point of view, they are involved with what is the main game in the SCA. Those around me who get training from me are also encouraged to do many other things. I have little ...

Re: To waiver or not to waiver?
If your KEM is aware and ok with it I'm fine with it but I'm going with past policy on my statement. I'll check and see what the rules actually say about it tonight and counsel my KEM's respectively. It's more about transparency than anything. We don't want local marshals authing local guys. We wan...

Re: Future of SCA fighting
Heavy fighters aren't "threatened" by fencing. It simply takes some focus away from the main game is all. I'm not so sure that the main game is heavy any longer. When you look overall at membership, I suspect non-heavies (all non heavy activities) outnumber the heavies. I've seen my own s...

Omarad bout a month or so ago put a listing of kingdoms and authorized fighters up here on the archive. But that was for 2010 only. I don't think there's a comparison to prior years however.

Can you get authorized at an unpublished practice? (I'm rusty, and don't really remember, honestly, if our practices were "official" or not) not at a practice. Only at an event. Are you saying that authorizations cannot occur at practices if they are listed in a newsletter and therefore q...

They serve as excellent fighting platforms once the wielder has been killed too... Olaf A war shield is 4 foot tall and 30 inches wide. It has a handle and a elbow crease strap. The front side needs to be painted purple with a yellow border and a yellow falcon on it. It's called "Using the Hig...

Friend of mine years ago went from one persona to another. A wake was held in which Osgaldr was set to rest on a table while the rest of us drank ourselves into a stupor. The next morning the body was removed and Ras made his way to our camp area and introduced himself to everyone there coherent eno...

Research, research and when you think you know enough..More research. When I had Jackie at Shamrock do some work on a helm..I knew his reputation well in advance.
