The Red Hand of Ulster and the augmentation for Baronets are both prohibited charges, one due to its long association with Ulster and the Ui Neills, and the other because it's part of the British armory. But it's not red hands that are banninated, it's either: A dexter hand apaumy gules (Red Hand of...

Germans are weird, anyway, since they also advocate cut-to-"guard" AND cut-to-center (conveniently granted a guard), depending on what works best in your current dilemma. ;)

Outlands requires either one year of authorized experience with some form of combat (WMA, heavy, rapier, etc) or training/working with an authorizing marshal until they're comfortable with your level of proficiency. The latter is actually the fastest route to authorization, with the exception of som...

Fownes and Fones are clearly registerable period spellings but at this stage I'm unconvinced that either was used in the 14th century. While having no luck with the plurals, there's at least one document from the UK National Archives dated 1396 for a Henry Fowne and one in 1374 for a William le Fow...

Re: Wearing maile

Mostly you probably need to wear it and become accustomed, but you may also have some basic technique flaws that are being magnified by the new weight distribution. This. While wearing maille properly helps, wearing any serious amount of armor changes your center of gravity and balance. You may nee...

I understand that draw cuts and tip slashes are innefective in SCA rattan fighting but I am still interested in seeing what period techniques do work and why some of them that aren't shinwhacks, grappling, draw cut or tip slashing don't work. I will watch with great interest. Meyer's German dusack ...

Breast protection concealed under the doublet is always a good idea. Stop thrusts don't care about kingdom calibration levels, and some folks have an unfortunate ability to hit the sensitive bits without actually aiming for them. Not to mention stuff like wars and melee, where you never know what's ...

Grappling in combat is not actually the best option most of the time. Hit and move are much more important. Going to the ground with someone is simply inviting his friends to stab you in the back. Not to mention rolling around in armour for any amount of time is really tiring and it sure would suck...
