Don't find every peer trying to hurt new fighters, or every officer holding new people down, or going out to ruin peoples fun. I don't think anyone (well, I could think of someone 'round here who would, but...) has said anything about EVERY peer. But how many people doing that does it take to drive...

The irony is that in a game where the winner of a fight is made so by a subjective test (calibration) that we have come to agree on, we can't seem to agree on a subjective test for appearance. Yes, but one's a subjective test you make for yourself regarding your opponent, and the other's a subjecti...

The impression I get from Maeryk's posts, and I could be reading it wrong, is that there's a difference between Joe Newbie who could get booted out of his first SCA event because he wears a t-tunic that he whipped up at home from polyester fabric and crappy trim, a pair of jeans and some sneakers. Who is to say this hasn't occured to people already. I bet it has. It's just one more tool in the toolbox of people who are already willing to pull out the stops in order to marginalize and ostracize people. Ideally, it would get used to drive those people out. In reality, it's more likely to be us...

There are some interesting thoughts here but way off topic from stances, even considering the OP references the SCA. We might start another thread. The SCA/WMA thing has been done in the past. I just wanted to post my Estrella offer in a place where folks would see it as a one-and-done kind of post.

That sounds to me exactly like the attitude that we have(had) in the SCA, only starting with reading the manual, instead of leaping into full contact contests with minimal training. Let's not forget that what turned in to SCA heavy combat was a few guys who had some traditional fencing training goi...

I've never played Alber with SCA tools. You mean the swords, or the fighters? Seriously, there are some changes that need to be made due to the nature of armored combat (no real change in rapier or C&T, since those are steel) and specifically rattan. Rattan simply doesn't allow for anything rem...

Jester, I've always seen it as both a provoking stance. Meyer, IIRC, uses it in his devices as throwing a zornhau from out of range, and ending in alber to invite the attack from your opponent. When they attack from on high, you parry/cut with the false edge (short edge) to ochs or vom tag and deliv...

Even with the chevron, that's a lot of green on red and black. Do you think it will make it through? Probably not without a German name and a lot of documentation. As to the coloration of proper, I have no idea what proper would be for a wyvern. It could well be green body/red belly like the dragon.

You can buy a manual pump at Walmart (or wherever, since you're unlikely to have a Walmart nearby -- outdoors store of some kind?), which is what I use for the inflatable camp bed. Most of them will let you reverse the tube to deflate things. Also, manual pumps don't require fresh batteries and give...
