If you are just looking to be legal, and not worried about aesthetics, what I have seen done is to take the face grill off a hockey helmet and attach it to the back of a regular fencing mask. Ugly, but dirt cheap. Two youth soccer shinguards can be tied together to act the same. Or a piece of wet l...

UPDATE - 3 weeks from completion of the 90 days program and I am at a total loss of 32 lbs of fat. I have gone from a 37 waist to 33 waist. I feel better, I am stronger and faster and HIGHLY recommend this program to anyone. I do suggest starting slow, unless you are already used to working out. Th...

Ask one of the Atenveldt Eberhauer landsknecht guys that visit here regularly (Balin50, lochinvar76) for the pics they have from their encampment at Estrella a year or three ago. I can't seem to find them on the Archive anywhere, but they're some awesome pics to show new folks, especially since you ...

El Paso only accounts for 750-800K. Close to your million, but not quite there. The Outlands portion of Wyoming is maybe 300K, tops. Major populated areas that also have SCA groups are only ~190K. (Rounded up.) We also lose a bit of Colorado, but only Vail, and parts west of the Rockies in that pock...

Re: Rough Draft Crown Tournament Shield Law
Historial Exception - For heavily armored living history quality kits without bar grills these restrictions can be waived at the discretion of the Crown. Approval prior to the tournament is strongly recommended. I'd remove the bar-grill requirement. There are examples of cultures in period that wou...

keep hearing a bout p90x....is this something you can do at home? on the road (i travel 90% of time for work)...or do you need a gym? You don't need a gym, but you'll need some resistance bands and some creative rigging skills to be able to do the band-version of the pull-ups/chin-ups. Aside from t...

The youth are trained in the style in a safe manner. That style being based on what is viewed as pragmatic for the time. It took it's field level technique and codified it and educated it in a safe way. Certainly Meyer's ideal, but if he's writing that specifically, it means that the majority of th...

I have discussed this weapon so extensively because commonly youths are led to skill in it, and if something is not properly presented to them, it will be hard to understand, particularly in this art; also some techniques cannot be ...

The techniques vary for region to region and are not something we would have seen on the battlefield of the ancients. I disagree with this, Li. Catch me at an event some time, and I'll talk about Meyer's dussack, and the movements we have in the SCA that parallel Meyer's fechtbuch. It's not 100%, b...

Re: Flat-Sided Rattan Sword Blanks
Or left over with a dagger. Possible, but not with a 48" blank -- I'd only have 10" of scrap, and even allowing only 6" for hilt and 1" for guard, that only leaves me with 3" of blade. Somehow, I suspect that wouldn't look like a particularly well-balanced weapon ... AoC Ca...

NASCAR tracks something other than spectacular accidents at high speed?
It's a neat idea -- one of the guys here has done something similar with rapier, and given points for going to practices, tournaments, and bonus points for how far you traveled to do so.

No, I recall this story, as well. It was early on, and there was a great deal of dissatisfaction with the concept of being judged.
