Sorry...misread the question as "based upon what weapon" rather than the intent of "what criteria in the SCA rules".

The longsword. Oakeshott types XVIa, XVII, XIIa are probably the most typical examples of reproduction swords you'll see out there.

8-12" hilt, overall lengths ranging from ~46-52" (give or take a bit).

Well met Sir Robert, I agree in some aspects, but I am an odd bird in the terms of an SCA fighter. I don't look at a bout as an SCA fight, I look at it as a fight. Sure it means I'm not the best SCA fighter, but I am OK with that as a combat "student". I love to talk mechanics, technique ...

I picked up one of the full-size splinted kidney belts at Estrella this year, and they're pretty damned sexy. They hide nicely under clothing, and there's been a couple of times where I've taken it off to find a pretty serious dent...without being able to recall ever being hit that hard. Definitely ...

Entirely up to the whim of the Crown, but usually shakes up as a double elim, best 2 of 3, with the weapon formats changing. The first round being an unbelt challenge round happens sometimes -- it was a kick this past coronation to have a peer challenge round where they had to pick a non-peer. Large...

Jester, Most of Darkwood's blanks have been approved (I'd say all, but Scott's constantly tinkering with stuff, so I never know what all he has), and I've seen him mount the single sword blades on a plain crosshilt (he had some at Estrella War last year). It might be a slightly more expensive arming...

Now just need to work on a 16th Cent personna, maybe a privateer. Don't need to do it unless you want to. Re: The Persona in SCA Combat

I was wondering how many folks try to ‘play’ their persona in combat? I’ve made a personal vow that I will only fight with weapons, and work toward SCA Safe proper armor for my persona. This includes creating SCA legal variants of those weapons, i.e. no basket hilts, weapon recognizable as pe...
