Uh? We have tax records from Rottweil in the 15th century, if nothing else. So its existence as a place is not in question, which means a locative surname can be registered. Maybe the herald is somewhat inexperienced and just looked for evidence of "von Rottweil" as a surname that someone ...

For an early period kit go to your fabric store and buy a piece of wool. Brooch it and you're done. Or Irish, all the way up through the end of period. I've got a lovely red brat for 16th C Irish. I don't do it any more, so I'll likely get rid of it...but it's damned warm, and a ridiculous number o...

Might save Agnarr time with the whole helm-lighting idea.

Also, that closed-cell foam folks pad their helms with? Like polyester, it, too, becomes flaming blue napalm.

Try something like these: m Someone here bought them and put some ABS plastic plates in with the (removable) padding. They also come with hard plastic over hips and coccyx. Re: Fighting in minimum armor

So my question here is, for those of you who do fight in the minimum, how is it? Do you find yourself on the receiving end of a ton of unarmored blows (chest, shoulder, hip)? Do the pads underneath on the unarmored spots take a good bit of the sting out of the shot? I fight in pretty close to minim...

They probably weren't good warriors though since they all got themselves killed right? Depends. 1. Did they meet with Philip II a week or two beforehand to discuss important safety issues and arrow type and quantity allowed for the combat archers? 2. Did they, in fact, have swords that were on fire?

Not necessarily going to help you develop a pattern, but Meyer's fechtbuch is ~1573, so right at the beginning of your time frame. Not soldiers, necessarily, but civilian clothing for martial endeavors...and high-quality plates.
