Hi Fulke You raise a really good question. I want to keep the cost down to a minium so Im not sure if it will be a super hard (yet not brittle) resin or fiberglassed with cloth. The carving is really deep on the front which may make traditional fiberglassing a bit tricky. ...getting resin down in t...

You also might want to contact Sir Bartholomew here in our Kingdom...He makes some pretty spiff ones. Also, you might ask Sir D'Houd(He's there in Boise as well) to see if his Squire still has one for sale...I'm not sure if he sold it yet but he may still have it...It's one of Barts crossbows.. Just...

ah, but 13/14th century irish really *did* armor up like a lot of other northern europeans - or they were the kind of conscripted soldier that didn't wear much in the way of armor at all, which isn't exactly useful for SCA combat. My understanding is that the well to do Irish were about 10 to 20 ye...

One thing to know, is that to work them, they will need to be annealed. Otherwise, you will not be able to form them, even with a sledgehammer. What I do is use an old BBQ grille to heat them and burn off the reflective material. I average 500 degrees (according to the thermometer on the grille) fo...

Re: Templar vs. Crusader - tabard conflict?
Though my persona is still fluid and unregistered yet, I've given serious thought to portraying a late 12th century templar. However, after reading historical material about them, I decided to switch to a more generic crusader. The problem lies in that I already produced a tabard in the style of a ...

So...is the cross I put on the tabard appropriate for a Third Crusade generic Anglo-Saxon crusader? You can wear whatever you want....How accurate you want to be depends on you. If you are looking for accuracy...I would say no...There is so much evidence for the others both Latin, Formy, and Paty.....

ok for the earlier dates you could think about maille and wearing caribou hides...while the hides prolly were not worn for armour they would have been worn for warmth and protection from the elements...and if tanned correctly could have been resistant to blades, and possibly arrows. It would take a...
