As strange as it sounds...I soak mine in Olive Oil...Then squeeze the excess off...Been two years and no problems...The guy who showed this to me has straps on his armour that are nearing 15 years with no replacement...

Ok, here is a pic of my kit with my current helm. I am the one in the black with the white cross. My current helm has ALOT of nice sides that catch stick where others would not. Currently I fight only in a flat top great helm and I love it....Am working on a Visored Sugarloaf ala the Luttrell Psalter....As far as I'm concerned...There is almost no sexier helm than the Sugarloaf...Hopefully min turns out as well as Sinrics...Hopefully it should , since I'm using his pattern....
