I've been trying to find some period artwork of surcoats from the early 14C specifically any that shows the backs...Trying to figur out if the heraldry on the front was also used on the back...Common sense in me says yes, but I wan to be correct... Go with the white...Gives it a proper look for the period..BUT...If you must have the shineyness of silver...Make a stencil and use some chrome spraypaint....Damn near mirror finish on some stuff I sprayed a few years ago....Blind em with the reflection... :D

I've always been the lost norse guy in my Pirate household, and our out of period garb in general has declined. O, and I agree with Aaron about the "live steel"...one of my pet peeves as well.....I seem to have quit a few as I get older... OK fair enough. It's one of my pet peeves when people say "Live" steel when what they mean is "Sharp". And I can be grumpier than you Eammon....
