Re: Splitting Planks?
I have a 30 inch diameter 4 foot length of black walnut with no knots. There is no where near me that I can have this sawn into planks. So, I am considering splitting it into one 3 to 4 inch plank at the widest, and then having it planned. I would like to use the remaining wood to make legs for a v...

I'll be 38 this year, and my health has been, well, less than good of late. I don't make squat. I'm getting armour. The armour I have want...

Ari....You have any info on the Costrel???? If it isn't the best picture I've seen yet of a costrel from the Mary rose, then it suggests strongly that the decorative form on the Mary Rose example(s?) wasn't unusual. I'm curious as to the source as well Maybe I'm still tired from work last night...B...

From a heraldry site: A second way of displaying marital arms is to impale the two coats. Originally, impalement was accomplished by taking the dexter half of the husband's arms and combining them with the sinister half of the wife's arms on the same shield. This practice is known as dimidiation. A...

Re: The Hunting Book of Gaston Phebus
I figured some of you 14th century types might need an excuse to hit the Half Price in your area. Except that its 15th century. A book that was written in the last quarter of the 1300's is the 15th century?????? Gaston Phoebus died in what 1391???So how does it make it a 14C book? In my knowledge t...

T BTW, as far as I know, there's no record of Teutonic Knights being involved in the Fourth Crusade. Doesn't mean there weren't any, but as it was mostly French and Italian-based, it seems a little unlikely. The main forces of the Fourth Crusade never made it to Outremer - they got diverted, and at...
