If you join a steel group like the Vikings NA there is no need for more than hand protection and a leather cap to fight; the rest of the armor is optional. I have a maille shirt but I never use arm guards myself. Well, from what Count Ralf was saying we might end up being members...A Norman Conroi ...

Eamonn The cheap way to go is a soft kit and a spear. A padded armor is iffy; some folks say yes other no. If you join a group they will have rules on it I am sure. Thats kinda what I was thinking...But I do want to fight... Figured I'd go slow and take my time to get it right. BTW...Your Hasting p...

I suspect that the difference in draw technique (European and arabic styles both use anchor points on/near the face. Japanese does not) makes the Japanese style less likely to hit the wrist. This is what I was trying to say....The arrow's placement, either left or right side does not give you strin...

I suspect that that has to do with the fact that Japanese archers lay the arrow on the right side of the bow, putting it farther from the holding arm. Bracers are used to protect against string slap...The placement of the arrow doesn't have anything to do with that....I have shot both ways and it i...

Personally, I see that as a very large vanbrace...It is part of the arm armour and not a shield...So if someone struck that you would then have to loose the arm...When I was in Adria we had a guy that used hat he called a shield strapped to his arm...But it left his hand free to carry anotherweapon....
