Ah, now that makes sense. yes, the billman thing, mmm hehe, sorry mate. The list that Vicky posts is an itinerary of the ideal way to go on a pilgrimage, maybe typical for a pilgrim, my guess is that, as it is for a foreign pilgrimage that the needs are somewhat different for someone doing a local o...

Some oldies from my former thug days, noting that I dumped the hood, no longer have that sword, nor the livery, nor the invisible breastplate (hidden by coat), don't use the coat any more, have the sallet and similar hose and shoes. But not bad for 15 years or so ago. The top one is of a more gentle...

As it happens I will be familyfying at Brother in law's and down at Hampton Court for a visit. My old nickname was Thug for quite a while, when on visits to foreign lands, I never aspire to be posh thug, just a rough and ready one. When my hand made hand dyed upper parts are finally delivered I shal...

Having seen some of those guys run the tilt at each other, from close range, I can safely say they are the Corleones, even if half of them are US imports or Dutch I look forward to a foot combat for some of the lower orders to be arranged. Out of interest, is the 'mafia' only for full harness wearer...

Both, if possible. Camera for actual images, ie for somethign that totally specific, but pencil for extrapolating info, like sketching shapes that the camera can't quite reach due to display limitations. Actual notes, text notes are vital, certainly for observations the camera can;t pic up or notice.

Re leather colouring, there are three main ways of doing it (authentically): paint - later sources use indigo sludge and linseed oil to colour leather. dye it: brazil wood and madders were used as leather colours certianly a couple of centuries later, I suspect Mappa Clavicula, 9th c will hjave simi...

Unbelievable mate. You provide an attraction service that generates profits for them, you use yor time, skill and kit (all at your own expense) and they basically use the 'well you are doing it for the love, so you should pay to enter'. Diifucult to tell, from a photo, but given that polychromy does fall off after a few hundred years and that looks remarkably clean, my best guess would be a modern (Victorian) restoration. Also the mail aventail is a bit crap. Do you know if the raised work is extant or has been filled in? ie the mo...

Is there such a thing brent? an average traveller? travellers can cover a wide range of people, including often people of trade, who will have kit appropriate to their function. PP, a roped off table, out of arm's reach (MoP arms), or failing that, no fewer than three people doing the demo, one to wave the items around the other two on crowd control. If not, then a chest, get the stuff out when required, a chest might make more of a talking point, ie the taking of items out...

The Spanish conquistadors had moors amongst their ranks. There is the image of the Black musician, circa Hen VII time, John Blanke, a receipt for his wages exists, he was paid very well. Gwen's link: Rope bed w/ mattress clearly shows the netting and how low it sets once a mattress is in place. Analogous to a hammock netting rather than a taut suspension. The initial pic is of a bed, as Irish rightly points out, there is a head board plain as day, not to mention the rather chunky up...

Re Grunal's blanks. they are hard, thin and have a convincing feel about them, far more so than cast coins I have had in the past. Our group has a die and block and we do brief coining demos and often give away the struck coins to kids - a major draw. Although we were once told to stop giving them a...

Tallow would be right too, the recipe I mentioned basically is as follows: wash the cloth and soak in alum stretch on a stretcher, let dry. Apply the dye based paints to the cloth and other colours. Let dry and smear in tallow. Paper windows were supposed to be common enough in France, up to the 17t...

Yep to all of that Kel. The windows at Barely Hall, fenestrals were oiled I believe, not nit picking just that linseed oil is cheaper than wax, and easier to apply. But if waxed would be ok as they ar not in proximity to fire, or at least shouldn't. But glad you brought it up as windows are interest...

Have you sought out musical notation was written in the period? as that can give you a clue, eg in the 16thc a lot of music was written so that three or four players/singers could read the same sheet, each edge having their piece on it, saved on materials and copies. I am not saying they did that in...
