Outlanders might know this for sure. I seem to remember that Ian McDuff took a broken Markland blunt to the upper left quadrant one year. That's the scariest injuries I have heard of. If he had died, it would have been horrible, and it also would have changed the course of the SCA substantially. As...

So, the only combat (trauma type) fatality is a rapier fighter? Didn't expect any of those in rapier. Honestly, didn't expect any trauma type deaths in general. What was in the CA thriead was actually referring to the exhaustion/heart attack incidents, not having one's skull crushed or anything. How...

Wool. Coat weight. Lots of available colors. Including undyed. Maybe even undyed before it's felted (maybe wrong word). Also in lighter clothing wieghts. Wool canvases too, like you'd get for sails. I know there's good companies with good wool, but never enough of them or enough selection for my tas...

Think of defensive linemen. Or offensive linemen if you wanna go really big. These are guys who expend a lot of energy. And they have pretty fair stamina. They're quicker than most of us, too. Some of these dudes run a 40 in less time than I can cover 25. Not saying gladiators were that mass-oriente...

Dumb Question- How do you Pronounce...
...Cervelliere? I come up with Sir-vell-ee-air.
I'm a big fan of this sort of hat and would love to be able to call it something other than "skullcap" in conversation.
I suck with french words.....
Thanks,
Christopher

LOL All you have proved is more injuries happen with Rattan more people by far fight with rattan so of course there will be more injuries with rattan. CA can make someone lose an EYE. I think he's saying there are proportinally fewer injuries. Not absolute numbers. But, even then, heavies take the ...

Books/Websites Needed On.....
...Eastern castles and fortifications of the HRE. On up thru the end of the 16thC. Prussia on down thru Bohemia and all points in between. All the books I have the emphasis is on castles from England, France and into the Rhineland (understandable considering English authors), or they deal more with ...

You get the tandy in Virginia, or the one in Columbus shut down (unless they have new management), and we will have sharp words, sir. I'm sorry you hit the asswipe patrol with your experience. But do not think this is a company wide issue. I have pretty much nothing but good things to say about the ...

Would it be possible to encourage combat archers to move to the rapier field? Rapier fighters already have good face protection, so arrows in the eye shouldn't be a problem. Those combat archers who can't fight effectively with rattan might be able to wield a rapier. The archers wouldn't need all t...

Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting that pattern. ealirer in the thread, it cam up that puderhose of that sort weren't too popular before 1550. I could hit the extreme edge of my range, but if I wind up 1530's it wouldn't work. You sound as if you've seen pictures of the Sture garments. Thanks, Chr...

Pretty much the same rivet you'd use on leather. Well, some people use speed rivets that need replaced a lot. Their theory is it's better for the rivets to give out than the fabric because it's easier to fix. Some people use burr rivets (copper, brass, steel, whatever their look preference is) becau...
