Sweet. Dreadfully curious about that as my wife and middle stepson are allergic to nearly every metal but gold and silver. Leather buckles for belts would be a real help. The boy just refuses to wear something he's gotta tie ("I don't wanna look like a hobo! Can't you just tape it together?&quo...

As an SCA cheat for the style of bascinet/visor combo Eadric's using, could you just hang maille off of a visored sugarloaf? Under the visor, I mean.

What tool are you doing the background with?

I kinda dig that purple. It's a killer first time job. I'd love for all my first attempts to come out that good. And for some things, my 8th or 9th attempt (friggin leather 2-piece helms). Did you use a rivet set on those, or did you just smack em with a hammer? They look flatter than a rivet set, b...

Actually, Milos, it's kinda helpful. I can't tell by looking exactly how tight the weave is (no eye for textiles), but the 18.5 oz looks tight-ish and heavy. So unless anyone has any good reasons not to get the 18.5 oz canvas from hemptraders, that's what it's gonna be. Anyone know of a good reason ...

And what are the Ameerican equivalents?

Considering that I'm not going to need crap-tons of canvas, and that it is loaner armour (read gonna get hit a LOT), the strength is more inmportant than the cost (which is gonna come out maybe a $15 difference from the least to most expensive). But I don't want it to get so heavy that it hinders mo...

Canvas CoP Shells

What weight for a hemp canvas CoP shell?

I'm going 2 layers thick (unless yall think I need more). It will be holding steel plates, not plastic ones.

I'm going thru hemptraders.com unless you guys know of a better outlet.

Splinted Limbs in the HRE

About what decade of the 14thC do we see splinted limbs starting to happen in the HRE? WHen did it become its most common?

Any evidence is good, it doesn't have to be imagery. It can be in rolls, will, etc, if it's definitely the type we call splinted.

Maybe we have different ideas of cheap. Or maybe you just know where to get it cheap. If you do, please share with the group. Still would like to know about plastic, regardless of oil. Just in case cheap is terribly subjective, and the difficulty of working the real stuff is too much for my particul...

So, basically, sort of a standard early elbow cop with little baby wings (maybe like on the knee in the Alexander pic), that looks welded to the vambrace?

Oh, if anyone can whip out a sketch of this, so I can see how it really differs from a bazu, Id appreciate it.

Ok, I get to make loaner armour for the Shire. We've got skinny loaner stuff, so this is for us guys who may have a larger waitline than chest measurement (I'm workin' on it!). German Language Stuff

How differnt is 13th-14thC "German" from say 16thC "German" as far as language? I assume that there were multiple dialects bordering on different languages throughout the HRE (just talking German tongue, not Czech or whatever it was in whatever part of the Italian peninsula). And...
