I kinda dig that purple. It's a killer first time job. I'd love for all my first attempts to come out that good. And for some things, my 8th or 9th attempt (friggin leather 2-piece helms). Did you use a rivet set on those, or did you just smack em with a hammer? They look flatter than a rivet set, b...

Actually, Milos, it's kinda helpful. I can't tell by looking exactly how tight the weave is (no eye for textiles), but the 18.5 oz looks tight-ish and heavy. So unless anyone has any good reasons not to get the 18.5 oz canvas from hemptraders, that's what it's gonna be. Anyone know of a good reason ...

Considering that I'm not going to need crap-tons of canvas, and that it is loaner armour (read gonna get hit a LOT), the strength is more inmportant than the cost (which is gonna come out maybe a $15 difference from the least to most expensive). But I don't want it to get so heavy that it hinders mo...

Canvas CoP Shells
What weight for a hemp canvas CoP shell?
I'm going 2 layers thick (unless yall think I need more). It will be holding steel plates, not plastic ones.
I'm going thru hemptraders.com unless you guys know of a better outlet.
Thanks,
Christopher

Splinted Limbs in the HRE
About what decade of the 14thC do we see splinted limbs starting to happen in the HRE? WHen did it become its most common?
Any evidence is good, it doesn't have to be imagery. It can be in rolls, will, etc, if it's definitely the type we call splinted.
Thanks,
CHristopher

Maybe we have different ideas of cheap. Or maybe you just know where to get it cheap. If you do, please share with the group. Still would like to know about plastic, regardless of oil. Just in case cheap is terribly subjective, and the difficulty of working the real stuff is too much for my particul...

Somewhere deep withing the recesses of threads long past, there was a link to a study by a physicist. The numbers actually say a spear (actually I think an atlatl) was really more effective on impat than a bullet. A bullet moves very fast, so it has lethal power. The spear, tho much slower has much ...

Well, if I buy metal, then I'm not cutting anything out. Hoping to get a kit with all the shaping done. I have a tool set from hal, but it's for my leather, so if I use it on metal, I gotta get the mirror polish put back on, and all kinds of stuff. So I'm a little limited on my metal pounding. If I ...

Daniel, you kick ASS! Thanks so much for the sketch of the Blair reference. That clears it up totally for me. Adam, are you referring to the one in TOMAR? The one he says is 1420's and has the scale skirt? I've always wonered if that's really what I was seeing. One of our Shirelings over at UVA has ...

Making Loaner CoPs for Larger Guys
Ok, I get to make loaner armour for the Shire. We've got skinny loaner stuff, so this is for us guys who may have a larger waitline than chest measurement (I'm workin' on it!). Anyway, which style would be better for a wider range of guys; The Wisby # 1-ish with a lot of segmented front plates, or T...

Have a look at the soldier on the right in this piece: m Then look at him in this pic: m Is his elbow protected by his vambrace? It looks a lot like a bazuband-ish sort of set up. Or is it really an elbow cop and I'm just not seeing the seam line in the sculpting? All I can make out is what looks li...

That's a great link, Karl, thanks. Stapled??? Do you happen to have any pics of that? Any idea why they would have gone with staples? Definitely looking forward to the massive museum post pics, B. Maille in the HRE 1250-1400
Was it round or flat wire? If it changed over during that period, when did the change to flat really become the norm?
Thanks,
Christopher

German Language Stuff
How differnt is 13th-14thC "German" from say 16thC "German" as far as language? I assume that there were multiple dialects bordering on different languages throughout the HRE (just talking German tongue, not Czech or whatever it was in whatever part of the Italian peninsula). And...
