About When Do you See...?

Hilts like this appearing on swords? I got this from the Darkwood armory site. Round about when did they start appearing? And where?

Thanks,

Ant, are those the ones listed as 5/16" ID, and 7/16" OD? How much did you flatten them? On the website it looks like a bag full of old beer can pop tops.

Yours look downright spiffy. How long did it take you to beat down 10,000 rings?

I'm in central Virginia, but it sounds like a hoot, and maybe even a blast or two.

Don't know if I could play from out here, but I'd be willing to build the kit.

I love WOR armour more than any other type.

Any side in particular?

Is the top padded? I can't really tell if that's black padding or black paint on the metal.

So all the weight is on your browline? It doesn't actually rest on the top of your head any?

Choosing Persona

Theres a thread on the MCaW board: m This thread got me thinking about persona. I haven't actually picked one yet. I have my clothes from when I worked faire, so I've sorta been default Elizabethan. Not a great kit, but looks better than most in the SCA. I dislike basinets, but I love the fact that ...

Do you have the LOTR DVDs? The Weapons and Wafare guide from the films will help too. The fundamental problem it seems, is that you are not sure what the shape you are trying to recreate is. Stare at pics of Uruks in armour. Watch the first two movies repeatedly. Decide if he is an Uruk at Helm's De...

Did you stamp that, Draven, or did you use a grooving tool?

Not bad for leather gaunts. Not as bulky looking as I'm used to seeing.

So, you didn't just take sides (like welts) that were thinner than the thickness of the blade, and then bend the top and bottom of the core to meet them?

Damn, I gotta go find the articles on myarmoury.

If one were to make quilted padding from scratch (going with the oven mitt idea), how thick ought they be? Oven mitts and potholders vary quite wildly in size.

Assume regular roll cotton batting.

I hope whomever is gonna wear those legs wears a splinted cuisse with the splints inside. That's the greatest looking leg harness ever.

That's some fine work.

I have a weakness for red armour. Almaynes just make it better.

Go for it, and get a codpiece befitting such a harness.

Chef, I assume you mean most modern riveted is Medieval munitions grade?

What would make it Medieval high end?

This is important to me. One day I'd like to have maille that I can say is on par construction wise and style to a true noble's maille.

Thanks,
